I almost spent 900 on three tickets last night but when my daughter said she didn't want to see a "bunch of old dudes play rock n roll" I held up till I could talk her into it. As you can see...I must be an old dude!! These were expensive back on the day.

I find the ticket charge being only one dollar to be more incredible than the low price of the ticket itself.

"Service charge" fee inflation has definitely outpaced ticket price increases.

There's no other way to put it, Keith Spera says.

Based on all the work put into luring the Rolling Stones to Jazz Fest, the band's cancellation is the most devastating in the festival's storied history.

That was by far the most expensive ticket I had ever purchased at the time. I have one somewhere that was from like 1975 at Tad Stadium in City Park for $7.00 that had Lynyrd Skynard, Eric Clapton, J Geils Band and ZZ top on the same day.

ETA - here is a list of those Day of Rock concerts in City Park. Went to many of them but my memory of them is "smoky at this time.

1975 Jun 7 Alice Cooper/Johnny Winter/Suzy Quatro
1975 Jul 26 Aerosmith\ZZ Top
1976
1976 May 30 Marshall Tucker Band
1976 Jun 20 J Giels Band
1976 Jun 27 Aerosmith
1976 Jun 27 Nazareth
1976 Jul 31 Black Oak Arkansas / J Geils / Peter Frampton / Bob Seger / Montrose / Trapeze, Bayou Boogie Festival
1977
1977 Jun 5 Bob Seger / Foriegner

1977 Jun 5 Fleetwood Mac / Kenny Loggins
1977 Jul 3 Marshall Tucker Band

He swung for the fence and tried to hit a grand slam by adding an extra Thursday and The Rolling Stones.

quote:

What happens next is unclear. The entire May 2 schedule at the Fair Grounds was built around the Rolling Stones. All other stages were to go dark at 4 p.m., an hour before the Stones were to start up at the Acura Stage.

Tickets in the initial allotment for “Rolling Stones Thursday” were priced at $185 – slightly more than double the price of a regular Jazz Fest ticket. They sold out, with hundreds of people camping overnight for a Louisiana residents pre-sale at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in January. The festival put more Stones tickets on sale this week, for $250 apiece. Second-weekend VIP packages and WWOZ Brass Passes all sold out quickly because of the Rolling Stones.

They lost Jerry Lee Lewis this week too (he had a stroke)

Nope he will be there

"In a call with The Tennessean, Farnum added that Lewis wasn't canceling any shows and that there is currently no reason to believe his next concert at New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in May wouldn't continue as scheduled."

Of course it’s devistating. It was going to be historic.

people that couldn’t get or afford tickets are reacting weirdly to this

Oh I gotcha. I hadn’t seen any of that.

Surely if Quint is so smart and crafty he had a backup plan right?

Funny seeing people legitimately happy about this.

What would really top all of this off is torrential downpours. Maybe even severe thunderstorm warnings issued during jazz fest.

That's just wrong. Somebody wanting to listen to some gospel or traditional jazz shouldn't have to accommodate Mick Jagger's ego.

Agree, it's strange.

Because they thought it was too expensive, or they don't like the Stones, or whatever else reason, they're happy that other people don't get to enjoy something.

I saw a Beatles tribute performance a few years ago at the Saenger and they were pretty awesome.

He should give those guys a call.

So he put all his eggs in one basket depending and dedicating an entire day to a stone aged rock band when he has had other major cancelations in the past years, with no plan B?

Maybe he’ll finally learn his lesson

He had to have some sort of insurance but I'm not quite sure how that would work.

Ask notiger1997, he seems to have some inside info.
