You twats are so sensitive about you boomer rock. That’s not even my favorite song by them, and I’ve seen them in concert, so blow me. I wouldn’t even consider myself some huge fan of theirs. I’m not an angry old man like you.
Holy fricking irony.
What an odd defense you offer considering i never claimed to be a fan of The Who. I said “a song like…”
And my point unsurprisingly sailed well over your head.
Take another Adderall and try and focus millennial twat.

It's always my biggest peeve in these threads.
A bunch of dudes who stopped trying to find new music after college 25 years ago commenting on the state of current music.
Its so tired.

Shitty fricking poster. Always have been. I don’t take adderall, and I’m not a millennial. Like I said, I’m just not an angry old man like you and half of the posters in this thread.

Well, I think it's a decent song, which is enough to make it worthwhile in my book. But as I said earlier, I strongly disagree with the #1 ranking. Had I made the list, it wouldn't have been on there at all. Maybe it cracks my top 5,000, which is still a pretty impressive distinction when you consider we're talking about a quarter century's worth of music. There's an enormous amount of room between "worth listening to", which it is, and "the greatest song of the last 25 years," which it absolutely isn't. It's not even the band's best song.
I feel the same about the inclusion of A National Anthem. I’m a big Radiohead fan and that just isn’t one of their best. Maybe one of their catchiest but certainly not their best of last 25 years.

Your point went over no one's head. It was just dumb. Literally no one, especially in this thread, is arguing that Maps is the best song of the century.
Rolling Stones puts out these rage bait lists all the time for engagement.
You trying to use this list as some indictment on modern music at large is just silly.

Always nice to meet a fan. I wish I could comment on your history but I’ve never noticed you before now.

Which is an absurdly confident claim to make about one of the most inherently subjective forms of human expression. There's nothing wrong with preferring the music you grew up with, but confusing your personal nostalgia with some universal standard of artistic excellence is ridiculous.

It wasn’t an indictment on modern music it was an indictment of popular music.
And unwittingly you have fully corroborated the sentiment.

And I forgot my other pet peeve: the insistence that modern rock music is somehow inferior because it's "derivative." As if every form of music since the first caveman figured out he could whistle or bang two sticks together hasn't been derivative of something that came before it. That's literally how music evolves.
Apparently, borrowing from your influences was artistic genius until sometime around 2001, when it suddenly became evidence that music was dead.

I think about this often with technology being where it is today. We are no doubt past our best music days, especially from a talent standpoint.
I was born in the 80s and looking back through all the rock etc. I've listened to I would say the 70's was probably the pinnacle, that doesn't mean there werent more talented musicians that came along at their craft but music is nowhere near where it used to be.

Thanks, I guess.
I'm not even pretending and have been playing bass along with YouTube 70s and 80s music all morning.

But I strongly disagree that they represented the pinnacle of artistic achievement. Those are two very different things. Cultural dominance isn't a measure of artistic quality, and popularity isn't the same thing as talent.

Could be some truth to this. Technology is stifling the development of our youth's creativity.
Whether it just being kids going outside and playing, pretending, dreaming. It's just not happening when they are plugged into their devices at an impressionable age.

Sabotage - Beastie Boys should've been in the top 25.

Agreed.
I just feel like they had to put more time and effort into the art.
