I see nothing in those quotes which impugned all of modern music. The list in OP featured some of the most popular names in music and it was published but the most mainstream rag in music. My assumption was that these were all curated from Apple commercials throughout the years.
And it’s why I chose to compare it to one of the most well known rock anthems from the past.
Furthermore I happen to think there is incredible music being put out today, so your accusation isn’t backed up by my quotes or by my feelings.

U2 belongs nowhere near a "top" list of any sort. Most overrated musical act of all time.
You misspelled The Eagles.

People will laugh but even bands like Fleetwood Mac were smooth. They had great melody and great vocals.
The Isley brothers historic.
Frank Zappa different but technical.

quote:Well, the massive record industry of the time had a Stranglehold (SWIDT) on popular music and poured enormous amounts of money into production, studio time, and promotion. That gave us grandiose, meticulously produced albums like Dark Side of the Moon, no doubt. But that kind of financial backing has become rare in modern music since the internet fundamentally changed the industry.
I just feel like they had to put more time and effort into the art.
Today you've got kids writing, recording, mixing, and producing entire albums in their bedrooms, often entirely by themselves. Naturally, the finished product isn't always going to have the same production value as something that had a major label's resources behind it.
Here's where I'd push back: much of that additional time and labor back then came from professional engineers, producers, session musicians, and entire production crews. That doesn't necessarily mean the artists themselves were putting more effort into their music. In many cases, today's musicians are doing considerably more of the work themselves.
I think you're conflating the amount of money and manpower invested in a recording with the amount of artistic effort that went into creating it.

It’s the worst song I’ve ever heard and it’s not hyperbole. Just abysmal. I’m glad today was the first day I’ve ever heard this.

This song should have made top 10 on that list.

Here you go. Now Maps isn't the worst song you've ever heard.

Because that was my impression.
Hook laden, upbeat, care free, zero angst and with mass appeal. The corporate theme song formula.

Maps being numero uno is a weird choice
Phoebe Bridgers being involved is dumb

4. “Good 4 U” – Olivia Rodrigo (2021)
6. “I Know the End” – Phoebe Bridgers (2020)
13. “Night Shift” – Lucy Dacus (2018)”
19. “Your Best American Girl” – Mitski (2016)
21. “Getting Killed” – Geese (2025)
The only entries from the last 19 years and they’re shite. Rock really is dead.
