With this list I’m surprised Modest Mouse - Float On didn’t get a nod.

It’s #29

I just saw the second post.

It’s better than most the songs in the top 25. Overplayed but better.

It's on there in the upper 20s.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs aren't even remotely a one-hit wonder. I'm not sure "Maps" is even their biggest hit. "Heads Will Roll" has certainly surpassed it in streams.

They're an album-oriented band with a substantial catalog and a long, successful career, not a singles act. Some of the greatest bands in rock history built their reputations on albums without producing a long string of mainstream hits.

There's a rather significant difference between a band having only one hit and you having only heard one of their songs.

2. “Seven Nation Army” – The White Stripes (2003)
3. “Mr. Brightside” – The Killers (2004)
7. “Last Nite” – The Strokes (2001)
8. “99 Problems” – Jay-Z (2003)
11. “Times Like These” – Foo Fighters (2002)
15. “Take Me Out” – Franz Ferdinand (2003)
16. “Welcome to the Black Parade” – My Chemical Romance (2006)
20. “Sugar, We're Goin Down” – Fall Out Boy (2005)
22. “Beautiful Day” – U2 (2000)
24. “Yellow” – Coldplay (2000)
25. “The Middle” – Jimmy Eat World (2001)

These would all be extremely hard songs not to know, some of them bordering on impossible

The first two would be almost literally impossible to have never heard

And if he's heard American Girl by Tom Petty he's heard Last Nite as well.

Fair point although prior to this thread I had heard of none of their songs. Looks like they have about 12MM monthly listeners on Spotify which is respectable.

But I guess we are digressing beyond the main point which is if the actual song is worthwhile/..and I just don’t hear it.

Well, I think it's a decent song, which is enough to make it worthwhile in my book. But as I said earlier, I strongly disagree with the #1 ranking. Had I made the list, it wouldn't have been on there at all. Maybe it cracks my top 5,000, which is still a pretty impressive distinction when you consider we're talking about a quarter century's worth of music. There's an enormous amount of room between "worth listening to", which it is, and "the greatest song of the last 25 years," which it absolutely isn't. It's not even the band's best song.

You twats are so sensitive about you boomer rock. That’s not even my favorite song by them, and I’ve seen them in concert, so blow me. I wouldn’t even consider myself some huge fan of theirs. I’m not an angry old man like you.

I guarantee you’ve heard it before. I had no idea that was its name nor that was the name of the band.

As far as your judgement as utter crap, probably closer to true than not. Definitely not the top song of the past 25 years.

Not every song can me Welcome to the Jungle, amirite?

But it's still better than some of the crap on that list. I mean, at least it's actual rock.

Not IMO, but I'm biased in that I actively loathe GnR

I hate most 80s popular rock

I don’t understand the hate for music on this board.

It’s weird because it’s like many people hating on this list aren’t even hating on it because it’s too mainstream and they have really refined tastes.

It’s a lot of folks hating on it because it’s not shite you’d hear at an LSU tailgate.

I think that’s what pissed me off about the takes in this thread the most. It’s simultaneously “what the hell are these artists?!” And “new music sucks”.

How can someone know if new music sucks if they aren’t listening to it?
