Why would you be embarrassed by government incompetence rather than just expect it?

Just pulled up to Thomasville, GA. Hopped out the car to see the storm make landfall

At home with my parents in Ascension Parish. Just made it. I will never be as hot and sticky as I was that week for the rest of my life but that's nothing compared to the sheer hell I know people in New Orleans and on the Gulf Coast went through.
Katrina was a huge learning curve for everybody whether they're a private actor or a public actor. So many mistakes was learned from that time.

My hope is that we have learned from the mistakes. Not sure we have, look at Sandy. Same shite.

Sandy was an anomaly and a once in a lifetime event even for the eastern seaboard. Hurricanes just don't happen in New England and while the lessons they've learned in sandy will be applicable to any future hurricanes, it's extremely unlikely it will ever happen again and I doubt future generations will have the same lessons in mind when they face their own sandy.

Not true. The 1938 hurricane was a huge tragedy. It will happen one day with a direct hit on NYC.

I'm pretty sure everyone knew NOLA was susceptible to sever flooding with the right kind of storm...the fact that it happened the way it did is what's so frustrating.

We haven't leaned anything as the government continues to subsidize and build infrastructure to allow people to live and expand on a geographically unsustainable piece of land.

I was in my hometown.... I wanted to stay in NOLA, but my mom basically kidnapped me so I wouldn't go in to work at the hospital... at the time i worked at Lindy Boggs Medical on Jeff Davis...

Lafayette thanks to my sis and brother in law. Went back to NOLA the week after to see my business and home in ruins.
Got my business up and running with a skeleton crew and lived off a generator for a month at home while I rebuilt it. Got the runaround from the insurance company so I cashed in my 401k and my home restored while everyone else was fighting with their insurance company.
