you see how the crane they used for Jeff Davis struggled with that?

NO WAY this amateur hour deconstruction crew could work a crane the size needed to move that full pedestal

going to be interesting to see how they handle the height and size of Lee. I assume they're just going to remove the statue and anything with his name on it... the pedestal again will be left standing... looking like an erect penis in the middle of the circle

The spotlight isn't so favorable and Mitch seems to have pissed people off on this issue. Instead of getting friendly coverage from a one statue a week removal we are in "get it over ASAP" mode.

Its because Mitch and the Democrats thought this would idea would resonate across the country instead it has had the exact opposite effect for Democrats as the alienation of white democratic voters & moderate African Americans is all this has accomplished.

Virgil Caine is the name, and I served on the Danville train
'Till Stoneman's cavalry came and tore up the tracks again
In the winter of '65, we were hungry, just barely alive
By May the tenth, Richmond had fell, it's a time I remember, oh so well

The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singin' they went
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la

Back with my wife in Tennessee, when one day she called to me
"Virgil, quick, come see, there goes Robert E Lee"
Now I don't mind choppin' wood, and I don't care if the money's no good
Ya take what ya need and ya leave the rest,
But they should never have taken the very best

The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing
The night they drove old Dixie down, and the people were singin' they went
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la, la,

Like my father before me, I will work the land
Like my brother above me, who took a rebel stand
He was just eighteen, proud and brave, but a Yankee laid him in his grave
I swear by the mud below my feet,
You can't raise a Caine back up when he's in defeat

The night they drove old Dixie down, and the bells were ringing,
The night they drove old Dixie down, and all the people were singin', they went
Na, la, na, la, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na, na,

I am not saying I support one side or the other, but this is the dumbest argument. You are saying that in order for something to be history, there needs to be a monument and if that monument is removed then it is erased from history.

Does Hitler have any monuments? If not, then I guess he never existed.

No doubt he wants his own monument somewhere. At a minimum, he wants a plaque.

Is the Moon plaque currently being guarded?

Wow, I'd never heard that before. So I googled it, politifact says it's bullshite.

One positive that's come out of this (for me at least) is I've learned a lot these last few days just doing research on it, I can kinda see better why so many people are upset now. It's a pretty fascinating part of our history

Bestoff & Taylor families definitely are not happy with this because its going to affect the property values for their buildings in a negative way.

I'm ready for it to be over with. Mitch has no cards left to play in his lame duck political career and I'm eager to see him flail about once the statues are down, the murders keep rising, and the radical types he allied himself with still wanting more blood (ie Jackson, street names, private plantation homes, etc).

As a last ditch effort contact anyone organization in New Orleans and let them know that you will vote with your wallet over the monument issue. One I've contacted is the New Orleans restaurant association and let them know that I won't step foot in one of their establishments if Lee comes down.

Economic pressure on people who have the mayors ear is the only hope we have at this point.

I'm not here to present some false hagiography of Lincoln, but there is a difference between colonization efforts (for example he endorsed a venture to colonize a small island near Haiti in 1862) and sending them to slave plantations. I think that action was deplorable, but it isn't what you suggested.

Over time the focus shifted, though not wholly, after the Emancipation Proclamation and once Northern soldiers started invading the South and seeing the horrors of slavery, many became abolitionists and this is evident in their letters home

So let me get this straight. You think the focus of those four states changed after they saw slavery conditions down south. Even though:

1)The Emancipation Proclamation literally did nothing for anyone. It freed no slaves in any part of the Union.

2)Those soldiers came from slave holding states, and many had their own slaves.

3)Those States didn't free their slaves until the 13th amendment. After the end of the civil war.

How can one fight to end slavery when they in fact hold slaves?

I doubt you even care enough to get off your butt and go protest about it.

Thats the problem if more people truly cared then they would be out there in the hundreds instead of dozens, mostly just filming with their camera phones.

Actually you can find papers Lincoln wrote early on talking about it. He stopped talking about it towards the end, but that doesn't change the fact. He offered $50 for any man who took a former slave south to work.

If you want to argue that his position changed towards the end, that's fine. But his position on African Americans wasn't what people today try to make it.

Edit. Even your link says what I said. He wanted it and supported it and talked about it. But his position "changed" towards the end. Was that a true to hart change, or a political move to gain support of blacks who wanted to stay is still debated. And we will never know the true answer.

I wish there were OSHA inspectors in the New Orleans area who had the balls to shut down these half assed masked demo crews.

I know a girl who is an inspector for OSHA in NOLA, and she is an airhead who is dumb as a box of rocks.

But, she is a little chunky, but IWHI. She is a cute chick.
