shite, some zip codes in Baton Rouge and Louisiana have some of the highest HIV and murder rates in the western hemisphere. That's in comparison to other areas in our hemisphere that are literally war zones.

sadly. it always amazes me how ready to mobilize people are at these random and small % events when every night of the week we have crime and violence galore in our cities.

I absolutely agree with you. There's just so much we can do before it's on the people in the inner cities. If people are okay with the status quo, all we can do is gentrify areas and price them out to another area.

i think we're on the same page. it just amazes me that the average democrat thinks a gun grab is possible yet will also concede that nothing can be done about inner city violence.

Riff raff can't travel? Most homes in my area are $300k and up and there's no ghetto around us so obviously they come in from somewhere. I live next to highland Park where the houses are even more.

in fact, it's going in reverse. i am absolutely in support of drug sentencing reform, however, what i can't get on board with is a large segment of that movement who want to remove consequences from ALL crime.

Decent areas are becoming more of a target. You'll not find people hanging around but for the gun and run, you want a place with decent"stuff"

Sadly, that is the only way Nola gets better. The gentrification has happened big time since Katrina and real estate prices are insane.
Yet you still have pockets of area that have slumlords with section 8 properties where these animals live.
I have no stats of course to back it up, but I bet it's something like 5% of the Nola population causes 90% of the violent crime. Same families generation after generation just being idiots and a cancer to society.

Yeah, there is definitely room for improvement in our criminal justice system, but it's hard to have the conversation when you have a growing segment of society view our system as only a vestige of white supremacy.
We have the fairest criminal justice system in the history of all civilization, and they want to blow it up.

It's not a bad part of town and it's a beautiful area, but I was coming from that area recently and crossed into the city park area and it was really dark in most areas and desolate. It's not a place I would really want to be in at night.

We have the best CJ on paper, but in practice it can be really really shitty and makes us worse off. Nola and Louisiana are pretty glaring examples of that.
Stiff penalties and higher incarceration rates than communist china yet still a crime ridden shithole.
Maybe the approach we're taking needs some adjustments.
