I’ll miss his holiday shows. I would listen to him on Thanksgiving day and we would put our turkeys in the oven at the same time.
His root beer glazed hams were the bomb. I make it at least once a year. I’ll need to do one soon in his honor.

My dad was a big fan of his and I actually got to meet him because of it. About 20 years ago, Tom organized a group to go on a 7 day Carnival cruise out of Miami and my dad signed us all up. On the same night we had our fancy dinner, where everyone had to dress up in a tuxedo, the ship had a talent show. I remember most of the acts not being that great but then Tom goes on stage dressed like Frank Sinatra himself and belts out "I did it my way" and brings the house down. He was cool dude once you got to know him... RIP Mr. Fitzmorris.

Big loss to the metro area, he didn’t suffer fools easily.
He appreciated well-done word play.
I may have been a caller from time to time….
RIP in peace dude. (Truly)

Talented writer and communicator. His love for New Orleans traditions and history as defined by it's old line restaurants were an underrated asset to the city's culture.
He stuck by New Orleans during some of it darkest moments, most especially during Katrina. In fact, his food talk radio show kept me interested in visiting the city despite its politicians and other significant dissuasions for quite some time. The continued slaps in the face to logic and dignity by the powers-that-be eventually ended my tolerance for all things N.O., but God Bless him for providing a footnote to what used to be a great place. RIP.

I did a couple of his eat club dinners. Was a good time and Tom moved around and spent time with everybody. Good guy.

I found him to be a bit of a snob.
He refused to say “po-boy” and always went out of his way to say “poor boy.” He was also very dismissive of some local dive eateries that locals love.

It was a shtick
Much like the “you call that living?” when a caller said they lived in Slidell or something

Got his book on New Orleans dishes his way. All I got.

Friend,
Poorboys is also what they are. It is the historic name of the sandwich that points back to the likely reason they were made. Do people get upset that Parkway Bakery and other historic poorboy shops advertise on their marquees the words “poor boy” rather than the sloppy, lazy po-boy? A distinguished gentleman to the end, we should all follow his lead and call them what they are.
Yours,
TulaneLSU

He was either pissed at me or the call screener.

Crazy, I just so happened to watch the NOLA No Reservations episode an hour ago and he made an appearance talking about restaurants recovering, sat down at Antoine’s with Bourdain.
Saw that one yesterday as well. I often stream a Bourdain channel during the day. Great stuff.
The Nola/Louisiana shows were great especially the one that began in Nola with Wendell Pierce and ended in Cajunland with a community cookout.

Well, put it this way. He pimped out Antoines and Commanders Palace forever. Both are overpriced and overrated

"Let's see if you can guess where I had lunch today."
Regular listener, once or twice caller here. He often did free giveaways - we got free tix to the grand tasting at NOWFE for test driving an Audi by listening.
He'll be having steak in Heaven on Mardi Gras with Clark the Gourmet Truck Driver.
"What's on the truck today, Clark?"
"...there he goes."

Commanders Palace
Name restaurants have declined lately, but Commander's isn't one.

I went about 2 years ago, and had some fancy name for shake and bake pork chops and kraft mac and cheese. That's basically what it was. Was not impressed whatsoever. Paying for atmosphere, rather that quality cusine.

We go @ least 2x a year and they also host a fundraiser for us.
Always an excellent meal...
Mr. B's on the other hand...I have no idea where they're getting their "seafood".
