1975 and Schlitz beer was what most of us drank. Budweiser was considered crap beer

I never drank that shite because of the story going around when I was a teen about Jane Fonda being tied in with that shitty Budweiser.

As a millennial I never discovered Schlitz until I took a trip to Milwaukee and thought it was pretty good for a domestic.

Shame that the younger generation is more into gay arse kombucha and weed than beers.

Like the owner, a lot of miles and a lot of beer have passed through this thing.
I guess it could be included in the "Pictures of Days Gone By" thread.

How? Cut the tab and then solder it back together?

my dad was still alive he would be truly hurt because he loved that damn beer and I don’t know why.

Yep 1979 Dad would be devastated. For a week or so. Then he’d have moved on to LowenBrau and finally Miller Lite which he did anyway? Quit it all in the Early/mid 80’s. If Marlboro Red would have done the same he may have started hitting us. lol

Until about 1987 when he gave them up too.

The first beer I remember seeing as a kid in the 70s was Schlitz. Our neighbor was an old WWII vet who, as far as I can tell started drinking them at breakfast and continued until he went to bed. The only thing he loved as much as his Schlitz was Lucky Strike cigarettes.

I had a neighbor like this in the early 80's growing up. The man had been an officer in the war and retired from the Army as a Lt Col, IIRC. He was already in his late 70's when I met him. He kept a service rifle, either an M1 carbine or M-14, on his wall with an engraved plaque on the stock given to him for retirement. A 1911 .45 was always around next to his lounge chair. He'd dress up almost every day, often in a suit and tie, but would drink and smoke Chesterfield's daily. When the car was taken away, he'd still get dressed up to walk outside and push leaves off the walkway with his cane. There were also days he might be seen waving the .45 around on the porch yelling at people. We got along pretty well, though, would talk most afternoons when I was out in the yard, and he never was mad if I had to go under his house to find a football or baseball that got away. He was also very tolerant of me shooting my pellet gun regularly. Right before he was taken away to a home, I heard he had wanted me to have the rifle, but his kids wouldn't let him give that to me. I understood why they wanted the rifle, but still felt honored he thought I was worthy to have it.

Pabst and Schultz were originally rivals and dominated the early Aus beer market. They were competing for best beer at the worlds fair. Pabst claimed to have won and thus called it Pabst Blue Ribbon. It’s an interesting story. I believe Schlitz was killed when he was traveling to Scotland and his ship crashed on some rocks near shore.

The only thing he loved as much as his Schlitz was Lucky Strike cigarettes. He lived alone because his wife had died sometime before I came along. His kids were grown and had moved away, so he was basically all alone. But he was an awesome old man. As long as I’d bring some worms, he’d let me come over and fish in his pond with him all the time. I can’t count the hours we’d sit out there by his pond with him telling me old war stories, he was an artilleryman on a towed 105 in France and Germany. Some of my fondest childhood memories were sitting by that pond fishing with Old Sam while he downed one Schlitz after another along with unfiltered Lucky Strikes.

The Schlitz and Lucky Strikes finally caught up to him in 1983. I still think of him often though.

I remember those days... Schlitz was in that steel can... MY unkle drank it.

But Mutt Finley was in Italy... Trapped in caves and mountain tops. Taking German officers prisoner.

I got 2 Schlitz stories:
1-My grandpa used to drink the 6 oz. version ponies. My grandma never let him buy more than an 8 pack at one time. My brother and I always wanted to steal one but he always knew how many he had in the fridge.
2-Later in life at our hunting camp, our camp leader only drank Schlitz. Main reason was that no one would drink his beer because it tasted so bad.

XO of my squadron when he would refer to something ending in a bad outcome or running out of luck would say "we're out of Schlitz".

I have drank enough beer in my life to float a barge. But not once have I ever drank a Schlitz. Always considered it to be a bottom of the barrel brand. Seems like it was favored by blacks and gutter alcoholics.
