I got to see him in concert with his then wife Rita Coolidge in Ellick. A roadie gave me Kris’ Gatorade bottle that he left onstage and I brought it home. I was in high school and thought he was gorgeous.

Anybody remember him in the 1977 movie Semi tough? It was a football movie with Burt Reynolds and Jill Claybourne.

Rip. In addition to songwriting, singing and acting, he did many things and lived a varied life of experiences.

I always though he tried to hard to be a country singer and was very meh. Could he write? Sure.

Yes, he was a liberal. But a very talented one who definitely left a mark on American music. And he seemed to get along with everyone, for the most part.

Can't say I agreed with his political opinions, but that doesn't matter. He definitely lived quite the life, and I believe he's now rejoined many friends who went on before him. RIP

It was a small bit, but he was also good as Sheriff "Big Charlie" Wade in Lone Star.

First R rated movie I ever saw.

I tried to watch it again a couple of years ago and it was so cringe. I turned it off so I could remember it badass again like I was 11

Great song but Tompall and the Glaser Brothers’ version is the best.

Regardless of your opinion of the NYT, their obituaries are well written; this link should be accessible to all.

Kristofferson Obit

quote:

Kris Kristofferson, the singer and songwriter whose literary yet plain-spoken compositions infused country music with rarely heard candor and depth, and who later had a successful second career in movies, died at his home on Maui, Hawaii, on Saturday. He was 88.

His death was announced by Ebie McFarland, a spokeswoman, who did not give a cause.

Hundreds of artists have recorded Mr. Kristofferson’s songs — among them, Al Green, the Grateful Dead, Michael Bublé and Gladys Knight and the Pips.

I got to meet him when I was an extra on the movie "Limbo" which was filmed here.

So he's no longer busted flat in Baton Rouge heading for a train? He actually wrote that song for Roger Miller.

One particular artist from Port Arthur, Texas, is conspicuously absent.

Amazing man and life.

How many people can claim they were a Rhodes Scholar, wrote hit songs for Johnny Cash and starred in a very good Martin Scorcese movie?

Insane how talented he was.

He was offered that position while he was still in the military, after he had served as a helicopter pilot at US bases in Germany. But he never accepted it and ended his time in the military at that time (1965).

Depending on what you read and who's talking, some say he wanted to be helicopter pilot in Vietnam, but was turned down and instead offered the professor gig, which is one of the reasons he left the military.

He never served in Vietnam.
