I am pretty sure no one said he was one of the all time great vocalists.
Repeated DVs of me saying exactly that he wasn't great dispute this, or as usual, the OT can't read.

like you said, folks relate it to good times. It's tailgate / BBQ / drunk on your boat music.
Yes, and so is CCR.

He's not Ronnie James Dio. He's not Meatloaf, Freddy Mercury, or any other brilliant voice. Did my friend that had a fifth of Crown in him sound appreciably different than Buffett did? No.
I'm not saying I hate the guy, but the reason people get emotional about him is because of the circumstances of when they listened to it, not necessarily because it was world beating vocals or any of that.

Good point
Similar to painter artist George Rodrigue and the Blue Dog. He hit a soft spot with mediocre talent but it paved the way to big success
Nice picking out Dio. That guy was great.

Roger had to flee to Alaska to escape his drug addled wasteland of a past , of course he’s jealous of someone who lived a full and happy life
If they are honest, everyone is jealous of the life that Jimmy Buffet lived. I dropped everything and moved down to the Virgin Islands for a few months after reading A Pirate Looks at 50 but couldn’t pull it off. I admired his ability to follow his passion and create the life that he made for himself. I think I just grew up in too much of a structured, conservative environment to do that.

Poor baby, upset that Jimmy was a phony?

Any other multimillionaires you knight for?

I’ve been reflecting on this and what made Jimmy so awesome is he and his music were free of pretension. I grew up on the water and was surrounded by Parrotheads and by and large they took on the attitude of his music, just good people wanting to get through with their work so they could have a good time. Funny that some of the people so vehemently hating Jimmy for his personal politics are the same who preach authenticity when they can’t stand it.

The guy wasn’t Beethoven, great. Sometimes it’s ok to just have fun.

Good on ya for trying. That book felt like being on a big arse vacay with Jimmy. I wanted to do the same.

Pirate looks at 40, tin cup chalice , come Monday , he went to Paris…are all outstanding songs.
He was also able to borrow a few songs and put his own stamp on them like Scarlet Begonias, Railroad Lady and Southern Cross

Just watched WBRZ's 5pm anchor repeatedly announce the death of Jimmy buh-FETT.
Ugh.

I like to think Buffet and Mike Leach are piloting a pirate ship drinking a Margarita in heaven

My boat is named Fins to the Left.
Jimmy will be commemorated and missed by me.
The weather is here. Wish you were beautiful.

One of my greatest memories is walking down Duval St on a Tuesday afternoon. Walk up to his bar and he’s playing on the stage. It was just him and an acoustic guitar, no cover.
The second line tribute for him on Duval Street was awesome. Felt like the whole town was there.

Some people let politics drive them over the edge. They used to stay off the OT for the most part, but now they’ve infiltrated all the boards.
People have let politics take over their life. I can say it’s going to rain tomorrow and some people will reply with some comment about Biden or climate change being a hoax.
