I was into whips and things
She was into pain
I’d beat her black and blue
When she called me names
Chained her to the basement
Where she went insane

Chained her to the basement

Hell, watch that movie and just check out whoever appears on it, Crowell, Earle, TVZ, Ramblin' Jack, Jerry Jeff, they mention a bunch of them.

That isn’t DAC that’s Johnny Rebel
Though DACs “She said someday I’d understand…” is a hilarious one

That documentary and him driving his own bus is legit.

Very sad. I remember enjoying his poem "The Raven" in high school.

Elvis used to do that before he amassed his own Air Force, didn’t care much for flying

About 10-15 years ago, there was a daily radio show on satellite radio for outlaw country. DAC, would frequently call in from the road and tell stories or just bitch about a venue or promoter. I wasn’t a huge fan, but I had mad respect for him doing it the honest, old school way.

No. shite. I can see the sign as I was driving past it all the time. I believe it’s that building that was in the area of the Prince Murat and I think it later became a blood plasma donor center. I’m not 100% on all of that except the general location, but I don’t think the building is even there anymore. They had a sign in front like at a convenience store, but it looked like it had David Allan Coe on it all the time.

You silly. That was David Allen Poe.

This dude played everywhere. Saw him at Texas club numerous times. Was at the show at Robert E. Lees in Hammond the night Waylon died. Needless to say it didn't last long.
RIP

DAC and Tennessee Whiskey are synonymous to me, and I say that as a huge George Jones fan too. Jones's version is good, but not as good as Coe's. Stapleton's version is absolute garbage and honestly is hardly even the same song. i get extremely country music snobby when someone tries to argue that Stapleton has the best version (they usually dont even know it's a cover)

can you imagine Edgar Allan Coe
On a cold and lonesome midnight, feelin’ worn and feelin’ tired,
Flippin’ through some old-time stories, pages faded, long expired,
I was driftin’ off to nowhere, sleep was closin’ in on me,
When I heard a soft knock echo through that old house in the trees.
Just a knock, slow and easy, like someone down on luck,
Tap-tap-tappin’ on my doorway, just a little outta touch,
I said, “It’s probably a stranger, lost out on this road for sure,”
Just somebody passin’ through here—
Nothin’ more.

I am pretty sure he played there at least once in either the very late 80s or early 90s. I did not make the show--big mistake--but a roommate did. This is, of course, secondhand and long ago, but he said that DAC was late going on stage, played a handful of mostly Waylon songs, and then took off behind the wheel of his tour bus. So, maybe not a great show, but it's dang sure one I would have made if I had that do over again.

A fantastic musician and songwriter. A true artist and all that that implies. The underground stuff may be completely misunderstood...he swore for years it was parody, who knows, but he did not seem the type to backpedal.
I saw him once around 1980 or so at the Agora Ballroom in Atlanta. Myself and my girlfriend, both 15 at the time. We walked up to the entrance of the Terrace Hotel and there were bikers EVERYWHERE! 2 15 year old kids from the suburbs of Atlanta. Pretty intimidating. Those bikers treated us like they were THEIR kids LOL...other than passing joints our way, not unusual for parents in the era LOL....we were treated like royalty. We had a BALL and it was a helluva show....
