I saw him at Gretna Fest 8-10 years ago and totally enjoyed it, but it was weird bc even though he had a full band, they were playing over at least some recorded parts, backup singers who weren’t there and maybe some other stuff. Very strange but very fun.
That's the last time I saw him. His son was on lead guitar and they had no bass player and a black drummer. Just played pieces of songs all set. Classic.

Well, that comment's about enough to make a man throw up.

Tyler Mahan Coe is one of the most pretentious assholes in the country music universe (if that's the one you're referencing).
that said, he has put out some pretty good content on the history of country music

Wonder how that first-rate whore sister of his is holding up?

If you like that aspect of the song, you may like the song "The Guitar" by Guy Clark. I recently heard it for the first time and had the same reaction to the big reveal at the end.
Are you just now discovering Guy Clark? If so, I am jealous!
Even if you've known of him forever, if you have watched the documentary/autobiographical movie "Without Getting Killed or Caught" you should. It is a great telling of the lives of Guy, his wife Susanna, and Townes Van Zandt. It is a very good presentation of a very complicated love story.
Free on YouTube (I have no idea why it is on the channel it is, though)

I was just making up a DAC type song about getting into heaven and St. Pete being racist

Didn’t he play at Murphy’s several times in the 90’s?

Damn, RIP crazy old dude.

It is legitimately great. It isn't all sunshine and rainbows, but that's life. If you love the old Austin singer/songwriter scene and the people who came out of it, you will love this.

Unless it is because it is so Austin centric that the people at that channel had an inside track to it, I'm not sure why it ended up there.

DAC really was an amazing singer. He wrote some incredible songs (such as Shove it) that were big hits
I saw him in Shreveport a few years ago. My buddy and I were like we better get tickets if we want to see him before he passes.
Anyway, they had to help him out on stage and sat him in a chair where he stayed the whole time. He could barely walk.
He still put on a great show and played most of his hits and a couple of his x rated songs.
The coolest part was towards the end he went into this medley where he would say, "I wrote this song for George Jones" and play a few lines and the hook. I wrote this song for Tanya Tucker and play a few lines and the hook. I wrote this for Johnny Paycheck, etc. It went on for like 20 minutes. I didn't realize how much he wrote that others recorded.
It was a good show and I'm glad I went.
