Her father, Hale Boggs, was House Majority Leader when his plane disappeared over Alaska in the early 70’s.
That incident is still one of the biggest mysteries in aviation history. His death was also a blow to Louisiana political power in D.C.

Coincidence?
Yeah, probably.
But damn!

Her father was instrumental in getting the NFL to give New Orleans a franchise. The merger of the AFL and NFL was blocked by antitrust laws. Hale Boggs and Russell Long stepped in and slid an antitrust exemption for the NFL into legislation that was up for a vote. Rozelle told Boggs that New Orleans "might" get a franchise. Boggs told him that New Orleans would get a team or there was no exemption for the NFL.

yep, and the retirement of Bennett Johnston sort of ended our run of clout on the Hill, La used to carry a lot of sway, hard to imagine now

I talked to an Alaskan old timer about that one time. He said the weather was marginal but the pilot was an Alaska aviation pioneer who thought he could do anything. Took one too many risks and his luck finally ran out. Didn't seem to think there was any mystery to it.

Johnston and the Boggs clan are some sort of cousins, or maybe his wife is. The Boggs family is also descended from William C.C. Claiborne, first American governor of Louisiana.

yes, there is definitely a north La connection there, I'm sure my Dad knew the story, he knew Boggs and Johnston was a very close friend, we had a Boggs from Shreveport that was a pilot for us, knew him casually, he's retired now

Hale was also on the Warren Commission. I wonder if he ever told her any of the secrets?
Posted on 9/17/19 at 11:50 am to Jim Rockford
Well, she has only been called a "bitch" once in the PoliBoard thread about her, so I guess that thread can be considered tame.

Meant to up vote.....

Her daddy was Hale Boggs who went missing with no trace after his plane disappeared over Alaska. Coincidentally (really) Bill Clinton dropped him off at the airport that day

I know she was a hometown girl and I used to like her too, but let’s face it. She was just another DC media insider political hack. I hope she’s at peace and her loved ones are too.

Jester, why are you usually such a dickwad? The original comment was very respectful, very decent, with a pinch of honest critique.
Your response to it was designed to turn this thread into an argument about Trump. The true mark of someone suffering from Stage III Trump Derangement Syndrome.
YeeeHaw, Jester's a dickwad!!

It's tenuous. Johnston's wife and the wife of Hale Boggs' younger brother were first cousins, and descend from the same plantation family in North LA.

He was the lone dissenter on the Warren Commission.

bullshite. That was an unsubtle dash of Trumpian media-bashing from an unapologetic Trumptard about a decent person who just died.
