See an audiologist who specializes in tinnitus (not all know what to do with it). Oftentimes, tinnitus is the symptom of an untreated hearing loss.

the ones i have seen have only recommended hearing aids that supposedly cancel out the ringing.

My tinnitus got so bad I eventually had to start wearing hearing aides.

Try to relax a little. Worrying about it makes your brain notice it more, leading to a feedback loop.
It could also be stress/anxiety/BP related, so relaxing and figuring out stress management will help across the board.

Hey Gumbo,
I suffered from tinnitus for years. Sometime so bad that i could not sleep.
Did a lot of research on it. Unfortunately the cause can be a lot of different factors. I tried riboflavinoids (sp?), white noise therapy, physical methods and none worked.
Then i came across an article that teeth grinding can cause it. I talked to my dentist and they molded me a mouth guard to wear at night while i slept. Within 6 months tinnitus was gone. I still get it occasionally but its fleeting. I would recommend you talk to your dentist to see if there are signs you are grinding or even just give it a shot. It's not cheap. mine was 400 dollars, but worth it. Dont bother with the shitty 20 dollar ones at pharmacy stores. Not a guarantee but man not having to hear the lifelong whistle, its worth a shot.

You don't. My specialist has it too. He said he reads everything available to him and can't find anything even in testing.

Don't obsess. Distract yourself and tune it out.
If you don't have it, protect your hearing. I got the smiles when I saw Drew Brees had ear protection on his baby after he won the Super Bowl. I SMH every time I see an idiot running a weedeater engine on his shoulder right by his stupid unprotected ears.

Interestingly, although I've had tinnitus for years, I rarely notice it, until someone mentions it or I read a post like this. Now I hear it distinctly. In an hour I'll not notice it.
