I could hear the music on my front porch last night. I am working 7 days a week on the pipeline can't go this year. We going to do a big pull thru the Calcasieu river this weekend we have to shut down a road so I got the night shift.

Dated a former Rice Fest Queen back in the day. It was a steamy relationship.

Was just thinking the same thing. There's only 15,000 people in Crowley. How the frick can so many of them be here?

No one brings out the ladies like Wayne. No matter where I go, whenever I mention I am from Crowley, someone knows someone who is from Crowley.

thoughts on this festival?

It's just like them all:

Drunk white people listening to washed up musicians and eating too much.

And rice. Oh so much rice.

Swing by the CHS band booth on the median and buy a burger. The burger's gonna be crap, but they could use the money.

Baptist church booth for a (bone in) pork steak sandwich. Or the bbq chicken sandwich which is a leg quarter between two pieces of Evangeline maid. That shite is delicious

Rice festival. That was the ultimate in my childhood bliss. 1980-86 or so.

Remember parking once by The Derby Lounge.
That's old school. Those old bars you DROVE PAST in part of town whose name could get the ban hammer. Who recalls Joes Duck In?

Amusing memories.

1. Lions Club hamburgers. I would now probably recoil at one, but damn 9 year old me loved those things.

2. Crowley Carnies in the 80's were real deal Carnies.

3. Parents and uncles talking about Wayne Toups being un-cuffed then cuffed after his shows.

4. My cousin and I winning several Siamese Fighting Fish. What do you do with 6?

5. Our moms horror (same cousin another year) at the amount of knives we won. You threw red rings at knives on a big rotating table. The impossible center knife being the Rambo Knife. 10-12 year old boys loaded down with probably 10 or more knives. Some decent quality, but REAL knives. Just walking around a festival.

6. Always wanting to ride The Hurricane but knowing I will wretch my Lions Club Burgers... Burgers plural.

Haven't been in years. But that festival to 9 year old me in early 80's was like an opening line in A Christmas Story. "The ecstasy of unbridled avarice."
