That’s another bonus of working from home, I got Covid and didn’t take a single day off of work. I never felt so bad that I couldn’t work, but if I had to work from an office, I would’ve had to take 2 weeks off.

Sooner or later I would think folks will begin to look at sick time in general because of this. Not trying to start debate over PTO or anything, but I can see an adjustment to standing sick time if you are WFH especially if it is a paid out thing when you leave.

I’d quit if my company forced everyone back 5 days a week. We are hybrid and it works perfectly

When I was working in a great "team-based" environment, I had no problem coming to work and thought that face-to-face was the way to go.

Now that I'm in an organization with a toxic culture and low employee morale? I'd much rather be remote. Unfortunately, we're required (although it seems like it might change) to be in the office four days a week when maybe two days tops is necessary.

We just have PTO, which is combined vacation and sick. I’m not giving up potential vacation days just because I’m sick, I’ll just tough it out

This will get downvoted into oblivion but the common theme in this discussion is how people will be affected personally. Not much regard for how the people coming behind them will be affected.

Not to sound like a broken record, but i think it’s real important to realize that not everyone is this way… ive been remote for 15 yrs, and feel way more motivated from home than i ever did in an office or cubicle with fluorescent lighting , water cooler BS and office politics… i bet there are just as many people like me, as there are people like you who go into a 6 month rut at home, gain weight and need ‘going into the office ‘ in order to motivate them .

No doubt. Just saw this as an opportunity to kind of stress the importance of having routines to folks who are kind of newer to WFH and are planning on continuing down that path for the foreseeable future. The ruts are completely avoidable if you're aware they're a possibility. Before COVID, no one I knew socially was 100% remote other than my out-of-state teammates and we really don't talk about personal shite like that, so I never had any sort of warning of potential WFH pitfalls.

I work for a Fortune 250 company. 99% of our training is done online, including new hire training, even if you're sitting in a cubicle. Virtual townhalls are held to accommodate personnel spread out all over the world. Teams meetings are what we all use, in the office or not.
This was all pre-COVID and we've had zero issues with new hires (at least in my org, which is all I really can comment on).

We went to a hybrid schedule, about a dozen people left for remote only gigs and about half have inquired about coming back. It turns out that many of these remote only gigs are micromanaged and they are having second thoughts.

It’s fricking irrational to require people to work in the office full time when they are equally productive from home.

The boomer need to make people go to an office is so backwards and silly. Face to face time is valuable, but making people commute and sit at a desk 40 hours per week is retarded.

I agree with this, but I don't necessarily think it's a horrible thing? Employers will drop employees at the drop of a hat, it's only natural for employees to look out for themselves and what best fits their individual circumstances.

Ridiculous

You think it’s ridiculous for someone to prioritize flexibility of remote work, I think it’s ridiculous that some people still go into work 5 days a week at jobs that could easily be done remotely.

I “work remotely” every Friday afternoon but that just means I take a 4 hour lunch and get drunk

ETA: every so often someone looks at their phone and says “why’s this dumbass emailing me on Friday afternoon” so we are technically working

No, I think the whole "pandemic" and subsequent protocols are ridiculous. I actually like my job and work with good people and can't imagine quitting because my employer....... Actually wants me to come to work. You sound like a big ole bleeding vagina

Our group's response to this is simply this:

Are you meeting client requirements and deadlines?

Yes? Get fricked up and go bang hookers while snorting blow.

No? Get your shite together or you'll be fired.

You’re lucky you like the people you work with, and maybe you dont have a bad commute .. the rest of us have different priorities- we dont like sitting in traffic for a couple hours a day and dealing with obnoxious coworkers who talk our heads off about pointless shite and then stink up the company bathroom…. But you do you .

I am way, WAY more distracted in office than at home. People randomly dropping by your office, or bumping into someone in break room and chatting for 20m, etc. None of that. I can accomplish my work much more efficiently and experience better work/life balance.

This was me before we went completely remote. We would come in the office for 2 days a week and i'd end up chatting to everyone in the office for most of the morning
