This particular situation, I was asked to apply (always willing to listen) at another company for a similar position.

The person I assume I would interview with and would be responsible for the hiring emailed me asking to send a resume direct to him.

Is a resume cover letter still the norm? Does it depend on different situations? Been 15 years since I’ve put a resume together.

I think you just put an 8 x 10 selfie as the cover these days

Unless specifically asked to provide one - leave it out.

I would say no unless they specifically ask for it.

Make sure you list your preferred pronouns.

I've never used a cover letter, but most job placements in my field are filled via recruiting so I've never felt the need to have one.

If you were asked to apply and you aren’t desperate for this job I wouldn’t put in the effort. It seems they are after you more than you are after them. They should be sending you a cover letter explaining why you should be considering their company.

Since you know the guy, I'd send a simple resume. In situations where you are throwing your application into a pool of candidates, attach cover letter.

I hire 10-15 people each year in various positions. Cover letters can make/break two candidates who are essentially tied on experience.

I can’t imagine many people write one these days with how anti-etiquette and anti-formal millennials and gen soy are. They are a nice way to stand out if the person hiring is older.

As a hiring manager, I'd only care about a cover letter if it was to break a tie, and that's rare.

Forget the cover letter and just include a crisp $100 bill with the resume when you drop it off

If they contacted you, they don’t need it. If you’re applying for a job a little different than your current job or your qualifications you can use one to explain your qualifications.

I have never thought of including money when sending my resume. That is genius. Some companies give their employees a bonus for recommending a new hire.

Is it against the law tho?
