Resting with your hand in your waistband

A lot of people do this. Not me though. Until about two months ago something happened and now I’m always resting with my hand resting in my waistband all the time. I have no clue why other than it just feels right. I see a whole lot of random scientific studies about why this might be the case, but not sure if I buy those

One of my thumb joints hurts after I've done a lot of chopping and cooking. Sometimes heat and a bit of pressure makes it feel better.
