Does someone bring my food to me after I order at the counter? If so, I'll leave a dollar or two.

If they call my name and I have to go up to the counter to pick the food up after ordering at the counter, I likely won't tip since I'm doing everything short of cooking the meal itself

Eta: these rules are fluid and often depends on the situation

Maybe a buck.

I'd hope the cook or whoever prepared my food gets the tip.

I will usually leave a reduced tip. Like $1 for each dish in the order. If it isn't full service, I don't think I should leave a full tip. But partial service... partial tip. That's fair to me.

One thing I will do, though... is tip the person at the snowball stand, before they make the snowball. They don't half-arse it that way, and I'll get that extra juice. OT Baller tip for you.

No. It's like tipping at a fast food place.

You tip for service. No service, no tip.

I got in trouble with the wife yesterday because of this situation. Apparently I call her an idiot too often. But she's the dumbass that tipped $2 for a freaking coffee!. I think she deserved to be called an idiot there.

I do not understand the need to extend tipping to everything, and I worked in the service industry before. Waiters....yes. Delivery drivers....yes, but not as much (I delivered too). Outside of that, there isn't much left except for valet drivers and bell-hops.

I usually leave $1 because I'd rather be generous than be a dick.

If I have to pick up my own food, fill my own drink, and then throw away my own trash; I don't tip.

Now if there is a person coming around refiling drinks and busing tables, I'll leave a few bucks on the table.

I just tipped the subway lady $2 bc she was the only one there and the line in Orange beach was long.

Also, it bugs me when people order the subway people around like they are robots.
Be polite, cordial, and engaging to your fellow human beings. Even if they are 40 yr old Moldovan gypsies making your 6 inch sub.

I throw a buck in at local places. At big chains like taco bell or chipotle, I don't. Inconsistent of me? yes.

I don't get this either. I went to the Jambalaya Shop the other day and they were setting up their tip jar. I was trying to figure out for what? You order at the counter, then go pick up your food when they call your name. You make your own drink and nobody comes check on you.. What exactly am I tipping for?

If I frequent the place, and know what to expect, yes I'll usually give a normal tip.

If I've never been, no.

If i've never been, but don't have any cash, I'll probably throw $1-$2 on it.

Eta: as others have mentioned, this is for local joints and stuff. Big chains I don't.

At a place like N.O. Hamburger and Seafood, where my bill will be around $40 for two people, I'll leave a $5 on the table if the server was diligent. I usually tip well, around 25-30%, but not at a non-traditional restaurant like that.

It all depends on the friendliness of the cashier. If they are friendly/helpful they get a couple dollars, if not, I don't leave anything.

I never tip them the same amount as a waitress or waiter (15% plus).
