Restaurants/stores/dives that you can't miss in Chicago

My wife and I are taking a trip to Chicago early next year. We will be able to venture out for three lunches and three dinners.
I realize I could check travel channel or food network but I'd like another perspective.
Unfortunately, Alinea will be closed while we are there, however we plan on going to Next for dinner one of those nights.
We are staying within the loop on the north side of the river (near the Trump hotel). We will probably hang around that area with everything there is to do, but don't mind exploring farther out.
We like all types of cuisine.

Girl and the Goat for dinner. Make reservations as early as possible. They fill up quick.
Blackbird for lunch was my favorite meal there. Beautiful space. Amazing food.
Violet Hour for fancy cocktails, supposedly, but I didn't make it there.
Purple Pig (doesn't take reservations) is super awesome. Popular like Girl and the Goat.

Went to little goat which is across the street from Girl and the Goat and it was pretty awesome.

My SO and I are headed there Friday and have reservations at The Girl and the Goat. Then headed to Second City for a show. I can't wait.
There are also a number of great breweries to visit if you're into that sort of thing.

After your second night of five star dining on rich food, you may want to check out Mother Hubbards. Bar food served in one of the best sports bars I've ever experienced. You won't be disappointed.

Eataly for lunch/quick dinner if you like italian.

Portillo's for Italian beef. Giordano's for pizza. Half Acre and Revolution have brewery tours.

Eataly
Haven't been to an Eataly before, but apparently Boston is finally getting one this coming year. Can't wait to try it.

Trippy can be a great source for questions like this. Give it a shot. LINK

It's pretty incredible. Not only do they have an amazing italian market, they have multiple restaurants inside to match any budget or wants. My wife and I hit it up 3 times for lunch while in Chicago because there was so much variety.

I have never been but Au Chevel is supposed to be great for burgers. I have a friend whose tried to go 4 times and the wait was long enough each time they didn't go.
Farmhouse was great and it was pretty easy to get a reservation. Probably the best dinner I've had in Chicago.
There are a bunch of markets where you can get some good lunches. French Market in the financial district has a ton of options. Eataly near Michigan Avenue had a great, great brisket sandwich.

My wife mentioned going to a comedy club. How does Second City compare to similar venues?

Ok, thanks
Bulls and Blackhawks will both be out of town for the dates of our trip. I was disappointed

au chevel is very good.
touristy old fashioned places: italian village, miller's pub, the berghof, twin anchors
newer with better food - as people said, girl and the goat is very good. la scarola very good italian food, schwa very hard to get a reservation at, supposed to be great.
grab a drink at Ceres in the bottom of the board of trade. strongest mixed drinks i've ever had. rossi's is a dive bar near where you are staying. a real dive

Second city is absolutely hilarious, would definitely recommend. They have like 3 stages so there will be a bunch of shows to choose from, their revues are usually the best ones.

also, Al's Italian Beef is much better than Portillo's. try a beef dipped with hot and sweet peppers and try a chicago style dog too.
a great deli is Perry's - only open at lunch. some of only corned beef I've had in Chicago to rival NYC
