Is it really worth annoying or pissing a customer off over a 25¢ cup of ranch dressing?

Chintzy.

It is when customers are wanting like 10 ranches to drench their food in.

Popeyes is the worst about this. Nothing like going to order a 10 piece tender to split between 4 people and them giving me one sauce. Then when you ask for more they want to charge you. BWW is the same way with their ranch dressing.

I'm sure they deal with annoying fat poors who will take all they have if it's free. But I agree it's pretty annoying.

We are going to charge customers $2.25 for a glass of tea that cost us 7¢ to make and then charge additional for any refills.

There's a local Greek restaurant up here who charges for the standard chili sauce. They don't have it on the table, they don't give it to you with a plate, and you wouldn't even know they had it unless you knew EVERY frickING GREEK PLACE HAS IT.

You ask, and they charge you a dollar for a small ramikan's worth.

The few times I've encountered this phenomenon, I just laugh and say "Nevermind. Don't worry about it.".

More times than not they give it to you free if you act like your life doesn't depend on it.

Food costs are high man. Say 20 people come in a day wanting an extra ramican of ranch. $5 a day. 35 a week. $1820 a year. That's a nice profit for extra ranch.

By us charging for these small items we can keep the price down on higher food cost items.

Exactly. Some people just don't understand how restaurants work.

Whatever.

Businesses should run like charity, and willingly dispense to you things that cost them money for free.

Higher end places pass the stuff out for free because they cover it with higher priced dishes. Lower end places that charge extra for sauce, refills, etc, have tiny margins and aren't giving anything away. Plus, the staff in those restaurants aren't given the authority to waive fees/let it slide.
