I went to a co-op brew pub in Austin that had a no-tipping deal, called Black Star. It was a cool setup with good craft beers on tap, and locally sourced, organic food. You had to pick up your dishes and bus your table, but the quality and the prices were great. I wish more places did this.

The actual salary amount is obviously not the point. The system he has set up to incentivize employees is brilliant and could be applied to varying degrees throughout the industry, with the exception of fast-food places where tipping isn't even expected to begin with.

Mother fricker! I was getting half of their bonus added salary working 90hrs a week in a specialized field with a degree. No benefits either

How much you want to bet he IRS still looks for unreported tip income from the employees of places that have a no tip[ping policy? If tipping is ordinary and customary for an industry, they will apply industry standards rather than unique company standards to the employees.

I guarantee you that the water and linen bill was not cut in half just because the employees started taking an interest in waste. The whole article sounds fabricated.

There is a line on the receipt for a tip.
Pick up a dozen donuts for the family on Sunday morning?

I actually was traveling for a conference one time and there was a cafe where you got your own tray and silverware and then went down the line and put your own food on the plate like it was a salad bar. I got to the end of the line and the girl rang me up and made a smart arse comment about me NOT putting money in the tip jar. For what? Am I eventually going to be expected to tip at Target and all shopping centers when I check out?

I know quite a few waiters who would be pissed and quit if their yearly wage dropped that much so that the owner could make more.
