If one has that serious of a nut allergy, shouldn't they have an epipen with them at all times?

Civil liability, sure. I don't get the manslaughter charge with years in prison though.

Gluten intolerance is kinda bullshite though. In my experience, which is a lot, 70-80% of people who claim to be intolerant to gluten don't know what it is. I have to tell people on a daily basis "no, almonds have no gluten, yes, all of our fruit is gluten free, etc"

NOBODY WAS ALLERGIC TO PEANUTS 25 YEARS AGO.

Even if this is true, so what? Or are you saying this guy was faking his allergy?

Hmmm man asks for no peanuts...

Peanuts are placed in his food...

Restaurant owner is a Hadji...

Seems suspicious to me, too.

He was committed. Suffocated himself for the cause.

It's not apples to apples. But I do think that the same bizarre aspect of human nature that could lead people to pretend to suffer from gluten intolerance could lead to parents exaggerating their child's peanut allergy.

Most of that is probably not from the same "look at me!!!" place, but I think some might be. I think it's likely that some people know the child has a peanut allergy but don't know how it is likely to impact the kid. They read about kids dying after someone else eats a peanut butter sandwich in the same room, and accordingly become militant about peanuts as they relate to their own kid. They're kind of over the top about it, and hence, the average person hears about it more.

I went to 5 or 7 different schools before graduating high school, and I never knew someone with a peanut allergy

I get that. Walk in to some 3rd world, English as a second language restaurant, where 80% of the staff doesn't even have a high-school level education and has been in the country less than 2 years.....and put your life in their hands.

Whole lot of people who've never been to England in this thread. Indian food is damn near the national cuisine of England. Curry Takeaways are probably more common than Chippies there, and Indians have been assimilated in England for probably hundreds of years. It is highly unlikely that a Curry shop owner in England is some fresh off the boat, "English as a second language" type.

Besides, that's not the point, dude had been warned multiple times, even neglected to change after a previous close call, and lied about what was in his food all to save a few dollars. IMO, dude deserves everything he gets and 6 years is not enough.

I carry an Epipen. They do not cure anaphylaxis. They simply give you about 20-40 minutes to get to the hospital.

That's a great thing b/c true English "cuisine" is nothing special at its best and awful at its worst.

Would anyone care for a nice bowl of Spotted Dick?

My wife has food allergies, so we dont eat out, except on special occasions, and only when we are in town and at a higher end restaurant. we cook everything for her at the house.

We can only go to a restaurant where they make the food and they are not from a can.

You have to expect that someone making minimum wage will not get your order right, and will not know much about food allergies...

Guy should not have gone to jail...

The guy was eating south Asian cuisine, peanuts are a staple in Indian and Thai food.

What did he expect?
