Of course I drink at social gatherings in front of the kids...
How else are they suppose to learn appropriate/ normal drinking behavior?
I would hate it that their only reference would be the occasional Aunt Tipsy and Uncle Lush...

It's funny how very few people think twice or judge others about drinking in front of their kids, but taking a puff of the devil's lettuce is grounds to take kids away.

I'm ok with it. As long as Mom can drive his arse to the hospital after the coach whips his arse for arguing over his shitty son sitting the bench.

When I lived out of state years ago I sent my 2.5 year old to get a beer for me from the fridge. A lady asked if I thought that was appropriate and I explained that I couldn't get my Lab to do it and what exactly did she think kids were for?

Its funny how you burners don't realize the difference...

We need to go the European route and let the whole family drink at dinner.
Then it wouldn't be some "adults only" thing that kids can't wait to do because they think it is an "adult thing"

There is no difference, or at least there shouldn't be.

What's the difference in legalized states?

I drink beer around my 9 yr old but try to avoid getting drunk in front of him.

If you've got a drink in your hand, a young kid doesn't know if that's a beer or a Gatorade. That kid probably has a kiddy cup or whatever at the same time. It's all the same to a child, a drink is a drink.
Smoking in front of children is not the same thing.

All I gotta say is that nothing was worse than those parents who would host parties for their kids in HS and get shitfaced with them. shite was just weird IMO

ok. what about when they're old enough to know it is alcohol?
and that's not even the point I was trying to make. a lot of people in LA get shitfaced around their kids, but at the same time believe a parent who smokes pot (even hidden from their kids) is a bad parent, should have their kids taken away, etc.

Except people drink a beer or two for more than getting impaired, and can do so. Plus smoking pot in front of kids is trashy.

My three year old knows how to get dad a beer during the fotoball games.

Are people in here calling people trashy for drinking in front of their kids?

Just to be clear I am not against drinking around children, just pointing out the backwards thinking and hypocrisy of Louisiana
You think Louisiana is alone in the fact that parents drink around their children?

If you're a good parent and raise your kids how to be responsible adults it won't matter how many addictive substances they're exposed to.

I would have a problem with drinking and driving when kids are involved. Drinking in moderation in front of kids wouldn't be a huge issue, just as long as they don't see Daddy getting belligerent.
