Me that would be work at a tackle store/bait shop, gun/firearms store, maybe an outdoor range, try my hand as a deck hand on a chill charter or dive boat.

These are always the best people to talk to! They're subject area experts just through a lifetime of experience. For example, the man in Clegg's on Siegen who knows everything about seeds is awesome. He's been a lifelong gardener. There's also a man in Bowie on Perkins who can tell you pretty much anything about fishing. These guys are true gems!

39 years with the Government and now what?

Think back on the 5 things you did in your career, and cash those lavish govt pension checks and laugh at taxpayers.

You have 7 months of full pay to figure it out. Pretty sweet deal to get all your ducks in a row

I guess one thing you didn't learn in your 39 years is how to respond to messages. You posted this and then just disappeared.

DOGE has offered 7 months salary if one agrees to resign. For it to amount to $100K they're salary would have to be in the neighborhood of $180K a year which is $10,000 lower than the highest salary a GS employee can earn (rest of US).

My friend that’s a GS 15 said “9 months pay so basically $100k”.

So I took that for what it’s worth.

Do you know how retirement accounts work? If he has 39 years in and did 8-10% which would be 4-5% of his and 4-5% match, then he can take his retirement pay plus 4% distributions and be pretty damn close to $100k.

Again, he isn’t working….if he needs to work, he could still work AND do the above. Then in a couple years get his social security.

This idea that OP is destitute is simply ignorant. He needs to go live life.

They'll have to keep working 4-5 years after they die.

Congrats! Enjoy your retirement. Hopefully you had a productive 39 years vs those that have been doing nothing but still getting paid

I suggest doing just that: find a hobby, spend time with your loved ones, and travel to places you've always wanted to visit.

39 year gov pension can't be bad.

Nobody on their deathbed says they wish they would have worked more.

Lucky dog. I’d fish all summer and hunt all winter. Bone dance the rest of the time.

Congratulations on your retirement

I am still a little leary that folks who took the Elon deal are going to get paid for the next 7 months though

In answering the email, you were to write “resign and retire”. The first word is resign. The govt runs out of money March 14. I don’t think anyone who took that deal will get paid past March 14. They “resigned”. Maybe i am wrong but I don’t see it

I’m retiring this summer, and the plan is to do nothing for 6 months, then decide what I want to do.

A job that I don’t enjoy won’t be on the list. Any kind of job might not be on the list.
