I fully expect my boss to text me questions when I am gone.. she does have my number.
And to be honest, I've responded to a couple of former coworkers who have texted me asking some legitimate questions. Generally ones who wouldn't bother me otherwise. And I was ok with that.
Everyone else can frick off, especially my former boss. They purposefully hired the relative of someone in the building who had no real experience in the job they took over. I knew at least two other people who interviewed who had the knowledge to come right in and pick things up to a good degree of where I left off. But they didn't want that. And then they gave her my number without even asking if that was alright. So I figured they made the bed, they can lie in it.

Umm? They wanted to retain me. Don’t get this comment but ok.

I had a new job lined up and they wanted me to start quickly. I gave about 2-1/2 days notice.
I worked 6-230 shift and didn't get a chance to tallk with my manager and HR until about 10AM Monday morning.
Me: "I'm leaving the company and Wednesday is my last day..."
HR: "We'll never find a replacement supervisor that fast!"
Me: "When this company lets someone go, HR notifies them about 30 minutes before the end of the shift of their last day. Do you think that's fair...???"
HR: - no answer...

Another two weeks of hell and I'm out
That would be two weeks of Me setting a new standard in “not one frick given”. They’d think I was gone already.
Hell, I might be negative by the end of two weeks

That's what I told them. I was like "I'd be more than happy to if you'd like to pay me the rate I'm making now at my new job.".
FWIW the consultant rate would be more like 2x what the standard hourly rate is for an employee.

I'm making twice what I made at the previous job.

That's consultant work and should come with "consultant pay".
I’m in this situation right now where I just assume be amicable but I am going on three months and just got a replacement but won’t be until end of May.
This fear of “burning a bridge” is stupid, I know. I hold all the cards.

Worst one for me was when I left the Cortana Mall Radio shack and moved over to Tandy Biz Products on Airline, about 1981 I guess.
My boss, a 20-something Tech music grad, was so caught off guard and was only thinking selfishly as he was losing his best salesman - broke into tears. I tried to console him but finally walked out w him sobbing on his desk. I felt horrible.
I swore to myself then if I were ever a manager I'd never do that to someone.
Since then and being an IT manager for the past 25 years, I've seen lots of folks come and go. They are always uncomfortable delivering the news. And I always make them feel better by jumping up, sticking out my hand and declaring "Congratulations!".

people shite on the giant corporations/cube farms all the time... but i hear way more horror stories from employees of smaller, family owned businesses
Some businesses absolutely stay small for a reason. I’ve seen plenty of examples. Mostly has to do with ownership having some sort of a god complex and not realizing their employees have options.

fact. i was the very first person hired by a company started by a guy and his family. was with them 10 yrs got fricked over regularly in favor of relatives.
I worked at one years ago that we knew every time someone got married that within a few months we’d get a new boss. It was comical. Left and never looked back.

All this talk of resignations makes me wonder what kind of shitstorm will start when I drop the other R-bomb on my boss: Retirement.

I so love when they tell you to pack up and leave, don't bother with two weeks. Best policy ever.
Some places, like banks, have no choice but to keep you out of the building once you turn in notice. But it is not just security. If someone is leaving your team, the last thing you may want is them YAPPING about better pay, or working conditions, etc. They may recruit staff to follow them.

I did it today too. Mine was cool about it but wants to counter so now I'm gonna have to rethink it all over again this weekend if they are competitive

In all but one of my jobs I've built a rapport with my team and management to where I'd want to give as much notice as possible and help with the transition. Part of it is pride in work but the other is pride in the relationships and connections you make as a professional. There's always easy ways out get the better of a company but it's the moral compass that leads you to bigger and better.
Also, the one job I had where management was just trash was a job that I gave my two weeks as quick as possible and then never spoke to management again.. though I still tried my best because my work affects other people beyond myself. I don't really get phoning it in, but I suppose everyone's situation is different.

My boss is being a total beotch now. Hasn't said a word to me since I told her at 9 AM, and after I came back into her office after talking with the CFO who tried to keep me which was around 9:45 AM. Then I just went to the bathroom and now she took annual leave for the remainder of the day. Seems she waited until she didn't have to walk by me and say anything. Though I am sure if I was at my desk and she left for the day she still wouldn't have said anything.

Same. I have access to all core network infrastructure. Despite all trust in me, no way would security protocol allow me to stick around, lest I hide some malicious scripts that randomly reboot core equipment
Which is really kinda a stupid policy when you think about it... If someone wanted to do some damage, they can do it and then turn in their notice right after.

Awkward but professional. Went to competitor but local VP was good to deal w. They said dont show up for next 2 weeks. I stayed w other firm for 5 yrs before major firm hired me away. They were a client so firm didnt say much. Now i hire both firms for projects. As someone said earlier dont burn bridges. Just be professional.
