So is swimming longer and further a good thing for the salmon or not? Not sure what the point of this study was?

i read the article because i was interested. These "news" articles always do this, put up an asinine summary of the study to grab attention and explain dick all.
They are doing the study to see the effects of illicit drug pollution of our waterways. The metabolites of these drugs are dumped into the water ways from human waste. its becoming an increasing problem. Even non illicit substance like caffeine are causing issues with ecosystem. They also looked at survival times of the animals exposed to drugs compared to naive counterparts (controls). The exposed animals indeed had a higher survival time than the controls. Whether that is significant enough to say its "better" i dont know. Increased activity and movement sounds great. However, what if this means they spend more time "moving" than spawning. Could have drastic effects on animal numbers.
Ground breaking study? nope. Neat though, and lies a foundation to build on.

And how much salmon and cocaine went “missing” during the testing?
My question is are the salmon using straws, or rolled up hundreds?

I sort've get it with the article mentioning increased cocaine residue being found in waters. It makes sense to study aquatic "pollution" and how it affects fish.
But damn man what do I have to do to become a "researcher" like this??

I would prefer to see a study of how much chemical ends up in fish that is in the table and restaurants. I can’t wait for the first court case involving someone claiming the cocaine in their system is from that salmon sushi the night before
