My grandmother told me that when the Italians, Sicilians etc. came over on the boat and migrated to the south, they were considered as low class as blacks. She was born in 1908.

Back in the day, at least you'd get shot in front of Spark's Steakhouse.
Now you get shot in the Mickey D's drive-thru.

That's actually true. In fact, BR Country Club had no Italian members until a few years ago. The WASPS in this town were a strong demo.
They're of course not now, because.. well, you know.

This is a far fall for the mafia. Paul Castellano got whacked at a high end steak house in Manhatten.

Hell yeah, the mob is back baby!! Would much rather the mafia than cartel or crips, bloods, or hillbilly biker gangs.

The Irish were considered worse.
The jobs slaves were too valuable for, they gave to the Irish.
The German portion of my family came over right before ww1. They left Michigan because of the hatred against newer german immigrants and moved to tennessee and Louisiana.
My grandfather had a great way of looking at things. "Respect people who say things directly to you. The man who hates you, and tells you, is worth ten of the man who talks behind your back." His oldest friend, a black man, basically said the same thing to me at his funeral.

To go from eating at N.Y.'s finest restaurants, often on the cuff to hitting Mickey D's drive thru. Oh how the criminal mighty have fallen.

My dad taught me a lot of things in this room. He taught me... keep your friends close - but your enemies closer.
