I got my son. I’ve never experienced anything like the Ingram Elementary school where they helicoptered the kids in. Still struggling to process it all. So far I’m friends with three families who lost a little girl. I really can’t believe it.

Glad you got your son. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your friends. No parent should have to endure what y’all have gone through the last 24 hours.

Was your son at La Junta? We know two that were there including one brother of one of the missing girls from Mystic. I can’t fathom what they're going through right now. This is heartbreaking.

I’ve never seen one of these floods up close. It’s hard for me to fathom how quickly water rises and how fast it moves. I’ve never been in a strong current, so I’m unsure of how the water gets moving so fast and can move houses.

Current is a powerful killer. I helped remove a flatbottom pinned upside down in current. It hit a log and overturned. The force of the current pinned it to the bottom of the river with such force that a winch was required to free it. Both people drown as they were unable to free themselves in spite of having on life jackets.

You could have been the world's strongest man and there was no way to fight the force of the water to move that boat.

Yeah we had to dislodge a canoe trapped in a tree in current once. It was a pain in the arse. We got lucky to get it with a log as a fulcrum to get to where the water helped us

Marble Falls and Round Rock for a total over 12 inches the last 24 hours. Just insane numbers that keep coming in the area.

That is 4 months of rainfall for that area in 12 hours. Heck, that's over 2 months of rainfall for New Orleans even in 12 hours.

Yes he was at La Junta. Everything went well as far as I can tell at La Junta. I woke up to an email saying every kid was accounted for and doing fine, had no idea what they were even talking about.

Mystic was a catastrophe. The unthinkable happened.

I don’t really get the gotcha of funding the NWS. They do a tremendous job, as I worked closely with the NWS over the years. But there are plenty of private weather forecasters that can also forecast. It isn’t as if the federal government is the only entity that can forecast.

No forecasting could have given some warning? —26 foot rise in 45 minutes.

I've been through something similar. The local officials should have at least been aware of the possibility BUT these things can happen SO fast and unexpectedly (rain in one area can destroy another miles and miles away which had no rain at all).

Given the flood came at 4am, the rain may have hit 40 miles away at midnight and no one would have been awake to warn anyone. Its a nightmare scenario.

I don’t even have children yet, and this story is making me depressed.

Such tragedy.
