It's comical that you think this is a precedent in the first place.
Can you point me to another incident where the White House ordered a military strike against a military leader of a country we haven't declared war on?

That's a disingenuous way to frame it.
He's a terrorist, plain and simple.

Didn't we blast a US citizen somewhere in that area?

I would kill 10,000 Iranian generals to bring back 1 American who died on 911.

Soleimani was meeting with a known terrorist that was responsible for having just attacked our embassy. Optics wise, Iran don’t have much of a leg to stand on to get anyone on their side.
Additionally, I’ve seen comments on reddit *taken with a grain of salt* that Iranian leaders viewed Soleimani as a political threat to some degree, so while they’ll use his killing as a rally cry against the US, they probably also aren’t too too upset. Soleimani seemed to be a figure similar to Egypt’s el-Sisi...a popular military general that could rally enough support for a coup if he wanted.
War can’t be ruled out completely, but most I think we see out of this is more of the same from Iran. They’ll probably cause trouble in Hormuz and continue their proxy battles.

Gaddafi was killed by a rebel milita group in their civil war. The rebels did have some NATO help in advancing in the region, but the US didn't order a strike against him and kill him.

Pretty sure he was referencing 1986.

we should instead focus on taking that power away from the President. Acts of war should always go through Congress, not the White House.
So you are not a fan of timely responses I see. Can you imagine how facked we would be if every response or decision had to go through congress? Nothing would ever happen in a timely manner. That's a bad idea.

The US hasn't declared war since the 1940s, so everyone since then

WTF do you think we did in Iraq in March of 2003?

Duh. And I even had a cousin that flew on that mission.
Still there was debate on whether Gadaffi was the ultimate target in that mission. Seems they mostly targeted their air defense systems in retaliation. But this was Reagan, so I'll concede my error and say he was the target and they only missed him because the Italian guy tipped him off to the attack.
