I don’t blame him for going out of his way to call it that. He should. China is currently running a campaign aimed at blaming us for this virus. Even as far as saying we made it in a lab and sent it over there. frick them. It’s the fricking Chinese virus and he should call it that every time he references it.

I can be fairly liberal, but this angle really pissed me off a couple days ago when I was still in Los Angeles and watching the local news.
They dove into this huge segment in Chinatown suffering because nobody’s going.. and how everyone is “anti-Asian” and racist. Then the IMMEDIATE next story was, “Stay your arse at home. Don’t leave for any reason.”
Hold up, which is it?
I have no doubt Chinatown is suffering just like every single place is suffering.
And honestly, it’s not racist to be aware that Asian folks who live in the US visit home each year. It doesn’t mean anything derogatory towards Asian people - just people realizing that Chinatown is one (of many, many) places in Los Angeles you probably don’t want to be due to the density and people from all over.
Same reason I stuck within a small radius of my AirBnb and didn’t go to big tourist spots.

I see what you are saying now. I mean it's all about messaging at this point. But it still doesn't excuse the fact that an administration didn't take this seriously months ago and is now trying to scramble to get this together before a peak outbreak.
