This seems like a story that needs more information.
I know this is going to be a super unpopular opinion, but I had the same thought.
This just seems like the dimbest fricking thing a criminal could ever possibly do. Maybe I overestimate street smarts in this situation.
I, and this is complete and total conjecture, think it seems more likely (and please before you rage at me look up what conjecture actually means) that this might be a botched tinder/catfishing situation which put her in a bad spot, not saying he didn't have a gun or anything, but maybe an initially controlled situation spiraled out of control, i.e., "oh, no sex? Take a look at this gun." Maybe he let her go because he had a different read on the situation, thought maybe he convinced her when she said she wanted condoms.
Or maybe he's just that fricking retarded, who knows.
I don't know, I'll wait and see.

There are real problems with sexual assault, but I think it begs the question of what actually happened.

As of 10:20 suspect in custody for the incident around Lakeside. Another suspect still at large, last search update was between Nicholson and River Rd. I believe just past Lee but I could be wrong.

as someone who deals with criminals on a daily basis, trust me when i say this story doesnt sound far fetched at all
criminals are idiots
we remind ourselves regularly that if they were smarter they likely wouldnt be criminals in the first place

The news is still saying she was raped. I'm assuming they get that from the police so somebody has the wrong info.

Whoever called 911 used the word "rape" so they sent it out in the mass text.
