Pigeon and whale is killing it on all fronts, but their drink specialty is definitely the negroni. Good bar menu, albeit a little one night, and great food. For a high end meal, they're hard to beat.

Ancoras bar program is not to be slept on. Great pizza and appetizers, haven't explored anything else on their menu. Bartender knows his shite and can make some really creative stuff, all riffs on various cocktails with an added amaro or cello.

Cure has the overall best cocktails in the city for my money. Their apps are good but if you're looking for an app that will actually put a dent in your hunger, you're better off going to Ancora.

Company Burger is a burger... It's a good burger, not a life changing one.

You'll get called xenophobic in some circles for that logic, but I'd love to see other how many other developed nations allow non citizens to own property in their country.

Mostly surprised it took so long.

Hypoxia you should go to sleep with the quickness, not struggle like asphyxiation.

Sounds like Alabama managed to frick up the means and methods.

Edit: It still worked, just not the way expected.

Nah just utopian places that build in redundancies and fail safes to their utilities.

Look I commend them for being able to get it back on and have water pressure when I got home from work.

What I'm just not going to pretend that I'm ok with losing water, not being able to flush, and having to take a whores bath like a third world resident given what I pay collectively in income and property tax. Especially not when I still have to pay for private school if I don't want my kids pregnant or shanked.

Water has to be flushed, something with chlorination of the initial shot of water.

Either way, this is ridiculous. We're one of incredibly few places in the country that accept this.

There's a reason Louisiana is one of the only low cost of living states that people are leaving in mass.

re: What are your top cocktails?

Posted by DixonCider on 1/18/24 at 7:49 am
Bourbon: Old Fashioned, gold rush

Rye: Old Pal, think boulevardier but dry

Rum: 44 mai tai, 1/2oz orgeat, no simple, 3/4 lime juice, 1/2 dry Curacao, 2oz funky rum

Gin: negroni

Tequila: margarita

Vodka: bloody Mary, otherwise... I'm not in highschool

Really depends on what your collection looks like, what you're willing to pay elsewhere, and what you like.

I got pulled in September, tons of no shows so everyone got to go pick several baskets. Lots of Stagg, Weller 12, 107, Blanton's, and a 4 roses barrel pick.

Baskets come with some actually very solid wines, bourbon cherries, etc.

Mostly priced 100-200 for a basket, but with everything you got it came out to roughly retail.

If you live anywhere near Cleary, or the lake, you are not in Old Metairie.
May my time stamp on the post say it all.... But here we frickin go

would they telegraph their next play like that?

Absolutely.

Israel still gives half a shite what the boys from Geneva set up way back when. The UN has already notified them they're violating the Geneva Convention with the siege.

It's checking a box in the dirty world of war fighting, but it keeps their nose clean when they turn city blocks into glass.

History is written by the victor. And they know they'll be the victor against Palestine, regardless of what pops off in response to this. So their narrative will remain truthful when history is written as "we told you to leave, and anyone who is there when we get there will be treated as a combatant".

I don't think that's an inaccurate narrative either, but I think anyone who has been through war will tell you that civilian casualties are inevitable. Hamas will cry war crimes ironically, so that covers their arse.
Rockets launched from Lebanon and the IDF responded with artillery.

Man I'm crossing my fingers that was a single salvo of rockets that got shut down.
I'm torn on this.

On one hand your selection is generally small. On the other hand your beers are cheap for stadium prices.

Go buy a beer from Petco Park and you'll have a better selection than most bars in Baton Rouge, but you'll pay $20+ for it

Carrollton raffle was well worth it. About 20 of 50 showed. Walked out with stagg, Weller 12, and Blanton's baskets.

In-laws are coming in town next week and will demolish the wine from the Weller and Stagg, Blanton's basket is a gift.

Overall, a good use of time. We've got a bunch of events coming up and now have the fun of offering some good shite for everyone to drink.

Gotta be honest, my collection is looking real slim lately.

Might not be anything good, but I don't have time to hunt. If I can show up and buy a bottle of something above average at retail price, I'll take it.

Also really hoping alot of people just don't show because they're expecting the good shite to be gone in the first 5 people.

re: Stopping prison escapes

Posted by DixonCider on 9/15/23 at 2:48 pm
Prisons typically aren't exactly built on the best of land. If you make it over one or even two fences, you won't get far.

Elayn Hunt and Angola have ditches frickin everywhere and they're isolated enough that you'll know real quick who's out of place.

Look up prisons and you're bound to find them off of major road ways, surrounded by challenging terrain for humans to navigate. Sure there's outliers, but the terrain makes escape hard and construction of additional barricades harder(read more expensive).

Gotta be honest, I have to disagree with Trader Vic, there is no reason for rock candy syrup in a mai tai.

My go to is as follows:
3/4oz lime juice
1/2oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao
1/2oz orgeat
1oz each of two different dark rums.

2oz of the same rum is more than serviceable, but I really like trying one plainer sweet rum and something else with some funk.

For a whiskey variant, swap your rum with bourbon or rye of choice and swap lime juice for lemon. The name escapes me at this time, but with beam products it's a nutty delicious drink.

Yeah under a microscope.

I'm not so sure this applies. There's a set number of 1968 Shelby GT500KRs.

There's more diamonds being formed every day naturally. There's also more diamonds being formed every day in a lab.
I just recently bought a lab diamond rock.

If you put it under a microscope, the patterns in the crystalization can be found which will give it away as lab. Key point to remember here, only under a microscope can this be seen and it's in the pattern itself, not the clarity.

The long and short of it has already been said. If she stipulates natural, run. It'll cost 4ish times as much for something that might wind up lower quality cut, color, and clarity. And if it stays where it should on her finger it'll never wind up under a microscope.

Her friend's mom is a former jeweler and commented that she couldn't believe I could afford a natural diamond that size when she first saw it
