By 2020 'catastrophic' shortages of water and energy supply will become increasingly harder to overcome,

This is true. We are currently seeing water shortages. It is one of the reasons we are seeing so many migrants. The Arab Spring started in Tusnia over a water shortages which lead to famine.

We would have enegry shortages if it were not for the explosion of renewable energy sources. Yet lunkheads in this country still want to burn rocks for energy.

While this particular report was way off, global warming does exist..... You guys do know that right?

Global warming most certainly does not exist.

Climate change, on the other hand...

I'm not sure what the average temperature should be exactly but I do know that it's increasing at an alarming rate and civilization is to blame, but you go ahead and shite on those liberal scientists and their stupid data

What would you say the cause was for the similar warming period 8200 years ago that was cited in the article?

An alarming rate ! You have data ! Irrefutable data ! And let me guess, only a State solution will resolve this catastrophe, right ? And there will be no discussion about this right ? Because there is a scientific consensus right ?

how much do I need to pay in taxes to “fix” it? The same scientists that told us in the 70s there would be an ice age? The same scientists who have been wrong for 50 years?

Look, we need to be good stewards to the earth, cut down on pollution, and not be like the Chinese.

But don’t act so arrogant as humans can control what the climate is like to any significant degree above things like weather patterns and the sun and volcanic activity.

Sure we do, as well as global cooling exists for a period in time. It’s called cyclical weather patterns. We understand perfectly just not the way you were hoping.

I mean, that's not at all what that report said. The Guardian and others spun it that way to incite fear.

quote:

The purpose of this report is to imagine the unthinkable – to push the boundaries of current
research on climate change so we may better understand the potential implications on United
States national security.

We have interviewed leading climate change scientists, conducted additional research, and
reviewed several iterations of the scenario with these experts. The scientists support this
project, but caution that the scenario depicted is extreme in two fundamental ways. First,
they suggest the occurrences we outline would most likely happen in a few regions, rather
than on globally. Second, they say the magnitude of the event may be considerably smaller.

We have created a climate change scenario that although not the most likely, is plausible, and
would challenge United States national security in ways that should be considered
immediately.

The actual report - "An Abrupt Climate Change Scenario and Its Implications for United States National Security"

quote:

In this report, as an alternative to the scenarios of gradual climatic warming that are
so common, we outline an abrupt climate change scenario patterned after the 100-
year event that occurred about 8,200 years ago.

The Guardian reporting was fake news, as is this gotcha thread.

Who knew Global Warming could spawn so many delicate snowflakes. It seems counterintuitive.

Global warming and/or climate change can be debated intelligently. Unfortunately, few are ever interested in that.

okay, that cover may be fake, but scientists have been predicting gloom and doom unless their pet studies get funded for forever.

The left wants you to focus on the science argument and debate.

That's not the point.

What we should focus on are the left/climate chicken little's proposed solutions. Notice what they all have in common. More government. More taxes. Less liberty.

Such a convenient catch all phrase that can be used to encompass any available data that one feels supports a particular view

And it is always 20-30 years out
