Replacing Brake Pads on Mercedes GLK 350

Question for all the mechanics out there. I need to replace the brake pads on the wife's car. My mechanic told me for that car, the rotors need to be replaced with the pads. I've checked the rotors visually and don't see any significant signs of wear. I'm also going to measure the thickness and compare it online with the minimum thickness listed in the specs. Is there a reason for replacing both the pads and rotors at the same time or is my mechanic trying to make an extra buck?

I'm actually not a fan of the vehicle due to the high costs to replace anything on it. I'm doing the job myself to save money also

They figure if you're gullible enough to pay that much for a wife's vehicle, you'd fall for the rotors need replacing,too, scam.

Never heard of this. Mechanics usually try to minimize costs for their clients.

How many miles on the rotors? If you not having any vibrations, pulsing, or problems when braking I would put on the pads only and roll with it.

You need a dial indicator to check runnout if you want to do it right but in reality if they're thick enough and you don't get any shimmy/pulsing in the break pedal they'll be good a while longer.

you only have to replace rotors if they are not thicker than manufacturers minimums.
I doubt you have to change rotors now.

Honestly if there is a little vibration he probably just needs to do a brake system computer reset to recalibrate which is usually done by a mechanic but there's a handyman way to do it at home. Just gotta start the car and hold the brake and gas all the way down for 30 seconds
