These patriots and unsung hero’s was Washington’s spies known as the Culper Ring. These bravest of the patriots did more to win independence than they get credit for.
The Culper Ring risked their lives everyday to give Washington the vital information needed to defeat the British and the loyalists. They basically uncovered the plot Benedict Arnold had planned to give up West Point to the British.
i liked the series "Turn" as well...

Intellectual cowards blame society for individual failures.

They certainly aren't our political leaders. They aren't the big business leaders you hear speak either. Our media and our politicians along with our Twitterverse seem to keep everyone silent now.

Amen brother and might I add to your challenge to name one mfering perfect person. Some people want to cancel the whole GD world. Let’s just look at a few of the great liberal hero’s.
JFK-drug addict and infidelity issues
Bobby Kennedy-See above
MLK-pedofile
Rev Jackson-total pos hated by MLK
Malcolm X-wanted to start a race war
Farrakhan- murderer
That’s is one minute, not saying they didn’t do some great thing in their lives but they would all be cancelled today

The depth of the ignorance of this response to the original post is astounding.

We had to read and report on a book about this relationship in freshman history class. It didn’t hit then like it does now that I have a son. I can’t imagine not being able to reconcile.

I am from old American families that all settled in 1600 and 1700s and very very few of them were ever rich but dozens of them fought in War of independence, and several signed the Declaration of Independence, so that’s bullshite. Ben Franklin wasn’t even rich most of his life, John and Sam Adams were solid middle class etc etc. Even George Washington had money issues off an on.
One of the wealthiest of my ancestors was a shipbuilder in NY who was in the middle of a bunch of contracts with the British so stayed neutral in the war and they were kicked out as loyalists after it was over and their property was apparently given to a bunch of Jewish investment bankers. (Lol) They were given property in Louisiana by the crown as compensation somehow?
There were obviously some rich guys supporting the war or we would have been screwed

Oh the irony of a keyboard warrior calling the founding fathers cowards, all while enjoying the fruits of their labor.

Let’s not get too maudlin Hollywood style and just keep in mind you likely wouldn’t have been on the land patent list to begin with.

There are plenty of other countries to choose from bud…renounce and move on. I’m a first gen immigrant; my father made it clear to me that people complain about this country up and down but they all want to consume the bounties of America bc it is by far the best deal out there today for someone who wants to succeed.
What these men put together is nothing short of a miracle and the world is better for it hands down.

This is not the sentiment shared by true progressives such as Frederick Douglass and many other abolitionists.
But congrats on being an edgy internet commenter.

“in Order to form a more perfect Union…”
The Founding Fathers never claimed the new country was perfect but they produced a document that would guide them and future generations on a never-ending path to make the country more and more “perfect” over time.

actually, a good bit is factually known about the founders and their affinity towards slavery...
owned slaves:
George Washington
Benjamin Franklin
Thomas Jefferson
James Madison
James Monroe
John Hancock
Patrick Henry
Alexander Hamilton married into a very wealthy slave-owning family...
other signers of the Declaration of Independence that were slave owners:
Carter Braxton
Charles Carroll
Samuel Chase
Abraham Clark
William Floyd
Button Gwinnett
Lyman Hall
Benjamin Harris V
John Hart
Joseph Hewes
Thomas Heyward Jr.
William Hooper
Stephen Hopkins
Francis Hopkinson
Francis Lightfoot Lee
Richard Henry Lee
Francis Lewis
Philip Livingston
Thomas Lynch
Arthur Middleton
Lewis Morris
Robert Morris
John Morton
Thomas Nelson Jr.
William Paca
George Read
Caesar Rodney
George Ross
Benjamin Rush
Edward Rutledge
Richard Stockton
Thomas Stone
George Taylor
William Whipple
John Witherspoon
Oliver Wolcott
George Wythe
framer (but not signer) of the Declaration, Robert R. Livingston was also a slave owner...
and that list is just the Declaration signers... i don't think i have to go into the Articles of Confederation and the Constitution to further make the point...
i'm not arguing the "right or wrong" of it, i think we all know what side the ledger slavery falls on... i'm just pointing out that with all of the historical evidence we have, it's pretty easy to conclude what the Founders "believed", as it pertained who they were intending that "freedom" for... now, to their credit, some of the names above did end up releasing their slaves, and some of them even became abolitionist but the fact remains that, at some point, they did own another human being for their enrichment or benefit

This. We have gone way, way too far expecting every past great man to be perfect. Part of what makes these events and the people who partook in them great is because humans are inherently flawed.

Ok, so what’s your point?
18th century colonial landowners had slaves. Stunning revelation.
