If your understanding of "American Greatness" comes from John Wayne or his movies, you should consider re-educating yourself.

He made 1 movie in Louisiana,

Not so fast Pilgrim. He was in The Undefeated, filmed partly near Baton Rouge at Belle Helene Planation.

My late wife was an emergency room nurse at BR General at the time of the filming of that movie. John Wayne got hurt during the filming and he was brought to BRG for x-rays. (Nothing was broken, so they went back to filming). My wife didn't get to treat the Duke, but she was in the room with him. She said he was very tall and very nice to everyone.

Maureen O'Hara said you never called him The Duke.....he really did not like that. His nickname was Duke.

I for one am not going to quarrel with Maureen O'Hara.

They shot a movie in our town years ago with a few fairly famous people in it. My dad met some of them, and wasn't too enthused about it except for one guy named Brandon Smith. He wasn't well known and only had a small part, but he was the stepson of rodeo cowboy, western actor and John Wayne sidekick Ben Johnson. That impressed the hell out of my dad.
