You are an awful person. The Duke made 19 war time movies promoting the armed forces. His monologues regarding the greatness of America are fantastic

I like his work as a movie guy but he definitely shirked his duty in WWII, he had a sort of legit out but a lot of his peers did as well and they went, even if it was something cushy and... um hmm... out of "Harms Way," he kept implying he wanted to go in but wanted to do it under his terms, guess he's believed too much of his movie scripts, John Ford, and others, shamed him about it unmercifully after the war

Everybody in my family tells me that my first words were John Wayne. I was around 8 when he died and still haven't had a public figure's passing bother me like his did.

Hollis Wood: "Oh, no, you don't. You thought you was gonna get me to show you where Hollywood is, didn't ya? Tried to sneak up on us, like ya did at Pearl Harbor! Bet you're gonna bomb John Wayne's house, ain't ya?"

Jap Naval Officer: "John-a Wayne?"

Captain von Kleinschmidt enters

Hollis Wood: "Jesus Palomino, a Nazi! I knew it, you're all in cahoots! Well, let me tell you something, Mr. Heinie Kraut, I fought your kind in the Great War, and we kicked the living shite out of you!"

John Wayne's not dead, he's frozen
And as soon as we find a cure for cancer
We're gonna thaw out the Duke, and he's gonna be pretty pissed off
You know why?
Have you ever taken a cold shower?
Well, multiply that by fifteen million times
That's how pissed off the Duke's gonna be
I'm gonna get the Duke, and John Cassavetes
And Lee Marvin, and Sam Peckinpah, and a case of whiskey
And drive down to Texas and....

I know that dude was a gazillionaire back then but I'm willing to bet that franchise, any NFL franchise at the time, was pretty cheap

and disallowed because no bewbs

ETA: rented a plane and flew into Lake Chuck to take my dad duck hunting circa 1981-2? Mecom was coming in to do the same... on his private 737
