The story all over the place on the exact location, back then there were no GPS tracking devices that are used now in accident reconstruction.
I was thinking about the restaurant that they stopped at just minutes before the crash.
On another forum, someone said that the Shrine was in the wrong place too.
But there is YouTube Video on the accident.

The White Kitchen was a restaurant/gas station/rest area about 1/2 mile N of the Rigolets. Many ppl thought the accident happened farther north not realizing they were going TO New Orleans not leaving it that foggy night. Accident scene was roughly 3/4 mile S of Fort Pike.

Just watched the youtube video linked above. Very informative. The split screen video approaching the scene was a fantastic bit to include.
