And they were going for hundreds of thousands, even millions, and people who didn't get it at all were told by holier than though types that they were the wave of the future and great investments...not money laundering schemes or flashes in the pan?

lol:

Soon to be worth Zero I'm sure. What a stupid trend this was.

Jones will be here in a little while to tell us why this isn't as dumb of an investment as it seems like.

Check it out. I copied and saved it to my computer for free.

quote:

An NFT solely represents a proof of ownership of a blockchain record, and does not necessarily imply that the owner possesses intellectual property rights to the digital asset the NFT purports to represent.[16][17][18] Someone may sell an NFT that represents their work, but the buyer will not necessarily receive copyright to that work, and the seller may not be prohibited from creating additional NFT copies of the same work.[19][20] According to legal scholar Rebecca Tushnet, "In one sense, the purchaser acquires whatever the art world thinks they have acquired. They definitely do not own the copyright to the underlying work unless it is explicitly transferred."[21]

What is NFT?

Endless acronyms. Can’t keep up with them.

It is a scam. So you own the still frame rights to a picture? Every millisecond of a movie is a still frame that can be purchased. It’s just dumb. More of a laundering scheme.

It’s only worth 74k if someone is willing to actually pay it

I was told I was dumb for pointing out that they have zero utility and therefore have no real value

Me either, but my basic understanding is that it's actually sort of similar to the whole FTX scam shite going on now. These pictures, gifs, etc. are hyped up as being "worth" X amount of money, and then they are able to be bought/sold/traded by other people who value them. I put worth in quotes though, because while worth is derived by what someone is willing to pay for something (basically), they are also essentially worthless in that there is no inherent, real world value in them. It's basically one gigantic Ponzi scheme-type of deal where money can be made by some, and others eventually are left in the dark with useless (and worthless) NFTs.

People made money in the short term with these, which is commendable (I guess). But lots of people lost their asses too (which is always a consequence with shite like this obviously).

I never will

I applaud the geniuses who came up with it though.

How is it still worth $74,000? This had to be a scheme like the old FB market place adds where people would sell a pencil for $500, but the first person to buy the pencil also got a pair of LSU-Bama tickets.

It doesn’t mean that you’re still not dumb, you just happened to be correct about that single issue.

Dumb people are right on occasion.
