I mean proof of ownership does have some value, but if that's the sole determination of an asset's value, the question remains: why does the actual asset have value?

The concept is definitely backwards. With NFTs the asset has no value, the chain of custody and proof of concept is what’s valuable.

NFT is effectively the real world equivalent to provenance. The jpg reference is perfect. Until the NFT includes all copyrights, it seems really silly hearing people trying to distinguish between the significance of the NFT over a copy/paste jpg.

If the bottom of NFTs doesn’t fall out in the current iteration, the next stage will be rights holders reissuing the most valuable NFTs and just changing the sizes/aspect ratios to continue to ensure they’re still one of a kind.

The current system basically looks like the love baby of Topps and Electronic Arts

You said they decided to index it to ETH but that still doesn't actually answer the question

Just realized, it was you I responded to originally. I guess you didn't like that response so you keep asking

yeah people like elite group memberships, material possesions, and "being cool"

Generally, it's likely this takes a huge hit during the impending recession.

All of these niche areas of discernment will be popular during the 0% interest/affluent times, but they will take a huge hit during stagflation.

OR the guy who created the "time to go mobile" joke. I believe Carson did a history of that a while back

Last I saw they're still together. His marriage to a stripper lasted longer than the NFT era by an exponential amount.

IMO NFT art doesn't have much value, I'm talking about the utility of NFT's in general.

I’m in this camp. NFTs have a value proposition of being able an easily transferrable, easily verifiable, and nearly impossible to falsify certificate of authenticity/ownership.

I’ve seen theorized some use cases for such a technology to verify to the common man if an image or video is authentic, and therefore it could potentially be a defense against deepfakes.

A fool and his money are soon parted. NFTs illustrated this perfectly.

Yeah if there is some tech in the NFT verification, that's one thing. Kind of lick blockchain from crypto.

Like it could be used for votes, for example.

Jones made a killing on nfts.

He knows more about that space than almost all of us.
