I tell you what, man, if I hadn't been able to deduct that decrease in F and that donated grand piano (for state purposes), we'd have been living under a bridge!

The good news is you can grow apple, cherry, and plum trees. Also, not far from the Cubs. But...

Iowa has great pheasant hunting and pork sandwiches.. Not much else beyond the typical Midwestern vibe.

The quad cities are very blue collar even when compared to Des Moines, which at least tries to be hip and fashion itself the Austin of the Midwest.

Just thought of something else - Happy Joe's pizza, maid-rites, and pork tenderloins. The popcorn at Casey's is also good.

I live about an hour and a half from the quad cities on the Iowa side... first off live on the Iowa side... I don't think I would ever want to be associated with Illinois, let alone ever live there. It is probably only second to California in regards to shithole states.

As mentioned before Pork tenderloin sandwiches are very popular and good, best sweet corn you'll find and Casey's breakfast pizza is second to none. Davenport is a blue collar, industrial city whereas Bettendorf is the up and coming techy suburb. You will be able to find a reasonable place in a small bedroom community not far outside of the city if that's your thing.

Des Moines is becoming a very popular tourist destination in the midwest. I have only driven through in the past 5 years but hear good things about how they have cleaned up and improved the city. You will have a minor league baseball team in the quad cities if you want to catch a ballgame and the Hawkeyes is an hour away on I80 to the west. Checking out Kinnick stadium is a must at least once.

All in all it's pretty boring, but it's mostly quiet and affordable. A very nice place to raise a family. Good public schools and as long as you stay out of Des Moines and Iowa City... we are still very red.

Man, that’s tough. Only an hour from Iowa city, so at least you’ll have some quality major college sports to attend once every 4-5 years.
