Oh, you’ll miss the scenery and general quality of life of Baton Rouge.

We have vacationed in the area a few times and loved it which is why we are considering the relocation. Born and raised around BTR but feel timing is right to make the potential jump and experience life outside S. Louisiana.

Chattanooga is a great city but feels smaller than it actually is. Would you have the option of moving back to BTR or to another city if you didn’t like Chattanooga?

Chattanooga > BR

But, to each his own.

We chose to retire near Knoxville and have watched Chattanooga experience positive signficant growth.

A couple of things to consider: where you will be working: what is the commuting like? Are there alternative roads to the interstates? Don't just listen to people, see for yourself what the roads are like in rush hours (The TDOT maps on line are the place to start.)
When you've decided on a direction to/from work, talk to the county agents in the counties out that way. You'll find that there are some real differences in property taxes, tax advantages tied to acreage, tied to age of the builing, even to the age of part of a building.
Do you want to boat year round? Does a magnificent view of the mountains matter to you? Do you want both? You can get them in Chattanooga.

And a hint, people really are as friendly as they appear to be.

Lived in both. No comparison really. Chattanooga is excellent for adults and kids and family life. No limit to outdoor activities, events, music, scenery, nightlife, etc. only downside is having to travel further for LSU games. Nashville and Atlanta are near by but not much need to travel there. I guess the other negative is the public school system which won’t be an issue for you.

According to The Rant a true LSU fan wouldn't dare to a game any time soon.

I don't know if our boy TigerEye2 is into adult entertainment but the strip club scene here is sad af. But it's an easy drive down to Hotlanta. Great titty clubs down there if you want to buy your wife or mistress a few dances.

Move to Nooga, hands down better than Baton Rouge.

Sure, you might not be as close to Nola, but now you have Nashville, ATL, & Bham. Airport can you to get ATL > anywhere in the world.

Chattanooga is awesome. Its a much nicer town than BR. There is a lot of money being put into smaller businesses around here at the moment and the city is really trying to compete on the young adult market.

A lot of the big industry around here has shut down in the past decade or so, but other big industries (apple data center, VW, Amazon) are opening shops here.

What industry is bringing you here?

Make the leap. You won't regret it. A negative would be the schools suck, but since your kids are grown, you don't have to worry about that.

it’s definitely an “up-and-coming” City. And within driving distance of most places in the southeast where you kids might settle (Nashville, Atlanta, Charlotte).

I wonder why Knoxville is not a more popular city for retirees. Close to the mountains with a major university in town. Maybe Kane will work on that if he becomes mayor.

Diamonds and lace?

There was once a Yelp review that said something along the line of "great place to get a sad lap dance while 20 Mexicans stare at you because they are too cheap to buy their own."

Move to that area where every house is themed after a Disney movie.
