This.
All I remember is going to sleep at the facility and then basically waking up a day and a half later at home with zero recollection of anything in those 36 hours. It was an odd feeling to know you've been dead to the world for that long.

I’m a bitch. Took me 5 days.

Had all 4 of mine out on a Friday. Took the meds like I was supposed to. Tried to go back to work on Monday, but couldn't. Tuesday i was just about normal.

Don’t take pain meds unless absolutely necessary. I had my wisdom teeth pulled and never took one. Corrupt doctor prescribed me a months worth. Guy should’ve been fired.

My son had his done a few months back on a Wed. Took off of work Thursday and Friday and was back at work Monday. Just chill out the first few days and stay ahead of your pain meds. He should be fine.

Don’t let him go on an international flight 2 days later to a place known for amazing food and wine….
Speaking from experience.
Also like other mentioned, take meds as scheduled (if needed), do the oral rinses as prescribed, avoid using things like straws, get him a chocolate frosty to eat when he’s awake enough to do so.

Everyone is different depending how deep or irregular the teeth are. For most after 48 it’s back to normal. I had mine out in the service they gave us 36 and it was back to the grind.
BUT be damn sure he flushes the sockets after eating for a week or two. Good luck.

Just take some Lortabs and watch TV. That's what I did and I'm a better person for it.

I pull out 4-8 sets of wisdom teeth each day.
Do what they tell you to do post op. Take the meds you are supposed to take.
Most young people do really well. That is why we recommend having them out as a teenager vs an adult. They tolerate the procedure much better, are healthier in general, and heal quicker.

I propped mine up on one of those “bed pillows with arms” and had ice packs on both sides of their face.
DO NOT USE STRAWS.

If it’s all four then he or she should get general anesthesia. It’s way quicker.

The surgeon didn’t mention oral rinses.
Tell me what it is please.
I’m a little concerned about giving him the Percocet.
I don’t really want to give it on a schedule at least the first time. But I also don’t want him to be in pain. Also when I had mine out they gave me ibuprofen and nothing else. So screw him. They don’t mention this stuff in the parenting books.

It's not bad... I found cold packs work best and reduces the swelling quick. I didnt take any pain meds and didnt need them.... had all 4 out at once.

My 16 year old had his removed last October. They gave us a script for Norco, but recommended 1000mg Tylenol (2 extra strength) and either 600mg or 800mg (3 or 4) of Ibuprofen every 4 hours. It's not addictive and easily accessible since it's OTC. He took that and ate soft foods for a few days, and was fine. The stitches dissolved over the course of a week or 10 days, and he didn't have to worry about flushing out the open cavities. Super easy process.

I had all 4 of mine removed the same day and the dentist said I was one of the easiest he's ever had. I had very little bleeding, no stiches necessary and I was eating dinner that night. They just gave me some numbing, didn't go under or anything.

I need to get all 4 out here soon. Been putting it off for a couple of years now.

everyone's different (obvious by now). I had 4 taken (cut) out and didn't eat solid food for a week. I think it was the stitches that were the issue. dr. gave me demerol for pain but my mother wouldn't let me take it more that once or twice. (didn't need it unless I tried to eat)
Read and Follow. The. Instructions. trust me, you're dentist doesn't want to go pack a socket on the weekend because you can't read.

Pain varies. Mine were not too bad. From the short time I was under, apparently it went very smooth.
Just take the meds as described and keep those sockets flushed with saline. I even put a teeny bit of hydrogen peroxide in my flushes.
I was good to go in a short time.

What are your experiences to limit recovery time and pain?
Day 1 afterwards was a blur.
Day 2 was better.
I was back in the proverbial saddle again by Day 3.
I took my pain meds as recommended until Day 4 or so.
I didn't have Dental Insurance at the time (1983), I paid for the procedure out of pocket, it was $700 (cash) as I recall.

Really easy for some people. Hard for others.
I did not need pain meds after surgery. Neither did my kids. Any discomfort was eased by a typical NSAID. Probably depends a little on how skilled your oral surgeon is too.
