re: Record number of LSU applicants, most from out of state

It’s kind of been this way for a while. Louisiana kids are normally the last accepted to LSU. Some aren’t told until March or April. My child ended up at State, even though she was accepted to LSU, because the process was fricked up. There is no clearly defined benchmarks for acceptance to LSU. Some kids get accepted sooner with lower grades and lower ACT than kids with higher grades and scores. And the whole ACT not being required is ambiguous horseshite. We all know why. LSU needs to establish a % of kids they want from LA. Figure it out. It shouldn’t be difficult.
This was our experience as well. My son was National Merit Finalist. LSU offered about $18K. Alabama offered 5 years tuition, 4 years housing, and $4K annual stipend. It was a no brainer. My kid went to Alabama.

The guy who claims Texas kids with money don’t go to LSU before admitting he doesn’t even know who Jim Flores is
Why should I know who Jim Flores is?
How does that matter unless his kid signed up for fall of 2025 class or this upcoming fall of 2026 class or ones at some point in the future?
You brought up current and future classes not past classes. You are changing your time frame to argue different eras, and now using that I don’t know who a person is.
Tate pushed more for poor out of state black kids than in state kids or out of state kids of alumni. New guys can’t change much for 2026 fall freshmen class, but hopefully they will for future classes.

So not this upcoming class or even this past fall which is what is being talked about.
And how the frick do you know there aren’t kids with money in the upcoming class or even this past fall? You’re all over the place.
The son of the billionaire from Texas graduated in 2022.
But yeah, he was probably the last Texas kid with any money who wants to go to LSU…
They all just want to go to Arkansas and Ole Miss now

Yep. Bama offers full rides and even pays them money for spending. They are trying to bring in new blood to help dilute the inbred situation.

You have give 2 possible examples out of a thousands of out of enrollees recent enrollees, and then say swing and a miss???
You claimed, straight out of your arse, that kids from Texas with money don’t go to LSU.
I quickly provided a billionaire’s son and a multi-millionaire’s daughter who both proudly received their degrees from LSU.
So, yeah, you swung and missed.
And yet you don’t say when. If graduated they certainly are not in the fall 2025 freshman or a possibility for fall 2026 freshman classes.
Original comment I was reply to was about Texas sending money and kids to LSU now and in the future. My comment was also about ongoing action in the present.
Telling me about 2 people who started before is a straw man argument.

Because I wised up, and my kid got accepted to both Texas and A&M.

And I’m sure you performed an audit on all of the current and incoming freshman’s family finances to support to your conclusion…right?
Or did you just pull it out of your arse and now you’re lashing out after finding yourself proven to be brutally inaccurate

Oos students often get better scholarship offers and it makes attendance often cheaper than their home state.
It’s happening at Ole Miss as well.

Nice, let’s hope he turns out smarter than his dad.
Shouldn’t be difficult.

For someone who claims to be a fan you don’t pay much attention to the reports LSU put out under Tate, or it’s highlighting of increasing grant eligible enrollees. There have been numerous discussions here on them.
But go ahead and add another laughing emoji.

I’m honestly surprised by the number of kids still wanting to attend college. For well over a decade now so many people have said college isn’t worth it anymore and that it’s way overrated and overpriced. I really don’t know what to believe anymore.
If you'll notice, the growth at state schools is happening at the same time that old fashioned small colleges are dying by the Bushel. Something like 200 colleges have closed over the past three years. There’s always going to be a class of kid that gets to go to college , and the ones that cant get into Ivies are going to southern state schools for the party atmosphere and relatively cheap tuition (compared to Northern options). Sooner or later, the small schools will be wiped out and then thats’s when I think you'll see a contraction at state schools.

Now Ad hominem/personal attacks after your earlier straw man arguments changing time frame of what I originally answered.
Nice.

The carpetbaggers are changing things for the worse at LSU, especially in the Greek system. I’m telling you it’s a targeted invasion.

So started pre Tate and not current enrollee on part of on going enrollment trends.
You keep straw manning this. The below was my reply to another poster.
quote:quote:
LSU's admissions committee is going to have some tough decisions this year and in the future.. do they admit the kid from Texas with $$$ or do they try to educated their own residents for free.
The out of state $$$ you speak of is more likely from being Pell grant eligible than from being rich.
Texans with money are going to Arkansas, Ole Miss, or even Oklahoma if they don’t stay in state not LSU.
Your reply:
quote:
lol…what?
Where did Tilman Fertitta’s son graduate from?
You know, the one sitting court side with Lane Kiffin at a Houston Rockets game?
How about Jim Flores’ daughter…?
Swinggg and a miss.
You and some others have continued to bring up examples from the past instead of current and ongoing, and also have attempted to frame my comment in absolute terms when I clearly stated that the out of state $ coming in is more likely to be from Pell grants $ than the rich. I never stated 100% of all out of state $ was from Pell grant eligible enrollees. I then added my comment specifically about where Texans with money are sending kids over LSU when going out of state (also just included universities from bordering states assuming we aren’t talking about students getting into to MIT, Harvard, or similar since my original reply was to some talking about Texas students not getting into Texas or A&M).
Let me help you with time frame being discussed
quote:
The present progressive tense is used for an ongoing action in the present. For example:
* John is baking a cake.
* They are painting the fence.
Even though it is a present tense, the present progressive tense can also be used to describe an activity that is going to happen in the future (especially for planned activities). For example:
* We are moving to New Zealand in the summer.
* The train is arriving in 2 minutes.
Also
quote:
A straw man is a form of argument and an informal fallacy of having the impression of refuting an argument, whereas the real subject of the argument was not addressed or refuted, but instead replaced with a false one. One who engages in this fallacy is said to be "attacking a straw man".
