If simply going down to Dollar General and getting a cheap one isn't your thing, find out which ones are recommended by Consumer Reports. Then pick from among those recommendations.

Make sure the new one is eco-friendly and has a small carbon footprint. It must be sustainable and make only organic toast. Maybe Tesla has a nice one for $4000.00.

You are a toastman. I can appreciate that. I, too, am a toastman.
For a couple of reasons, toasters have mostly gone to shite. Don’t waist your time and money on those crappy cheap toasters.
The heating element of the average home toaster has been dialed back such that it takes too long, dries the toast out and never achieves the golden brown consistency that you’re looking for.
On top of that, modern toasters have been made to accommodate larger breads, like bagels, which puts the smaller breads further away from the heating element making the problem even worse.
I went through half a dozen toasters trying to find one that works right: making great toast, evenly browned, with the inside still soft, all done very quickly. I would buy cheap and expensive and none would perform like the old toaster we inherited from grandma that unfortunately broke.
I finally stumbled upon a great toaster while fixing breakfast at a continental breakfast set-up at a small roadside motel!
You’ll be surprised to know that it was actually a Waring! The important thing to know is that it’s a “commercial grade” toaster. The “professional grade” warnings are the cheaper, home models, like the one you have, and it’s garbage.
Go get a Waring WCT708, at a minimum. If you’re an OT big baller, get the WCT805. It looks like a regular toaster, but it has 12 amps, and costs about $350. It’ll cook four pieces of perfect toast in under 2 minutes.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you to get a toaster oven. That shite is a jack of all trades but a master of none. Get a toaster for toast.

I’m still using the POS toaster I got as a wedding gift in 1988. Ex didn’t want it because it’s only a $15 Walmart toaster. She took the washer, dryer, vacuum, bedroom suite, kitchen table/chairs, dining room suit, etc. But it’s a great toaster! Winning!

Agreed. We use it to reheat leftovers, make chicken nuggets for my picky child, bake pretty much anything in there. We use it as often, if not more, than our microwave. And it does a fine job toasting my bread. Anyone who dislikes toaster ovens hasn't had a good one. The breville ones are fabulous. I think I got mine around Christmas time 4 years ago, and I've never had a single issue with it.

Consumer Reports, best 2 slice toaster (score of 80) is the Krups 2-slice KH732D50, $31.99 at Amazon. Take it all with a grain of salt though as the 30 buyers who rated it at CR averaged a 1.6 out of 5 rating.
The only 2-slice Ware was the WT200 with a score of 58.
