My feet are kinda jacked. High arches and joint and nerve damage. I don't expect running to be fun and possibly not even productive but I need to. And I need a decent shoe to carry me.

Best thing is to go to a running shoe store and get fitted. What works well for me (neutral mizuno) may be terrible for you.

Go to VarsitySports Baw and leave with that free tee shirt that a co-ed can wear home after a night of shacking

Get fitted for Newtons. Different, but if your foot is a particular kind of jacked up they fit like a glove

This. No one shoe fits every foot. In addition, it is very helpful when you have running pain to get custom molded inserts. Roadrunner Sports can help you with that, if there is one near your town, but most good running stores can do the same. A lot of them will film you running on a treadmill to pinpoint your foot strike and pressure points.

IF this isn't an option, go for a shoe that has plenty of support and a thick cushion. The Brooks Trance, Asics Gel Kayano, and Hoka One On are good options. Good luck!

I agree, but I also wear a 14 W and not too many stores in smaller size cities have many options.

Get fitted, go to an actual place that does this. I did this about 3 years ago and have bought nothing but Brooks ghost since then because they fit my foot and style perfectly. I have wide feet, low arches, and walk/run on outside of my feet.

Athens Running Company will take care of you.

I have Brooks Ghost which are recommended for people with high arches.

Not sure of exact models, but Mizuno and On Cloud make good running shoes.

If this is about getting in better shape and losing weight....in order of precedence I'd recommend:
1) Better diet & hydration
2) Light physical activity throughout the day to start with
3) Walking rather than running
4) Add speed and distance to walking rather than running
5) Add dynamic and compound exercises for 'cardio' effect, as well as things like rowing and other low impact activities.

Unless you need to run long distance for some reason, there's no reason to do it. It would be better to mix in sprint intervals.

Like others have said, go to a running store, tell them about your feet, any issues with shoes, etc. they will put you through a few standing tests to see where your feet land and where they pressure, and then recommend some shoes. They will work to get you into the perfect shoe.
The first trip will be expensive as running shoes aren't cheap, but after the initial purchase I just go onto Amazon and order the year old model on the cheap. Usually order them 2 at a time for under 100 bucks

This after buying whatever was on sale for 20 years I went to a shoe specialist to get fitted and it made a world of difference.
