My group text was having a disagreement over this. I think it perfectly acceptable to recline your seat in an airplane. A couple of others acted like it’s a cardinal sin to do so. So brought it to the OT
Upvote- you recline your seat on airplanes
Downvote- you don’t

Side note (all the people arguing you shouldn’t recline your seat were overweight)

ETA: this popped up on my Facebook timeline shortly after posting this

Have no problem doing it and no problem if other people do it. It really doesn't make that much of a difference, unless you are fat of course.

I'm 6'4" and HATE when the person in front of me reclines their seat, so I don't recline my seat unless the seat behind me is empty or a small kid is sitting there.

I don't recline my seat. The 5 degrees of difference isn't worth it to inconvenience someone behind me. I get a window seat if I want to sleep.

This thread will get heated.

My opinion is this: I hate it when people recline their seats, but they paid for their seat and it’s their right.

Use Situational-awareness. If you have a 6'5" Baw behind you already jammed up, then don't be a dick. If it's a sleeping 6 year old, then go ahead and take the extra space.

If the plane has a button to recline your seat and make your ride overall more comfortable, why should you deprive yourself of this amenity? I have no problem with people reclining in front of me and frequently recline my seat too.

Anything over a 3 hour flight you can recline. Should make it a rule.

IMO if the seats are reclinable, then you have the right to recline them.

It doesn't really seem to make much difference if the person in front of me reclines the way the seats are made.

Do you not like the seat being closer to your face or something?

It does if you're tall and your knees are already almost in your chest because the space for airline seats is already cramped.

I fly twice a week, every week. My flights are typically anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 1/2 hours. I personally do not recline my seat on these shorter flights. I don't care if someone else reclines theirs since they paid for their reclining seat just like I paid for mine.

Feeling Entitled to dictate how someone else can use the seat they paid for is childish and really speaks about the person complaining.
