Obviously this is an exception. Once it’s clear just get over and let the person through. Im not defending unreasonable drivers who tailgate in this situation....but if you are passing a line of cars going 68 and you are going 71, speed up or duck in and let the faster drivers through before you finish passing
Two problems: 1. I see people tailgating drivers that actually ARE passing in the left lane more often than drivers just hanging out there. 2. It’s usually not 71 and 68. More like 71 and 60.
I drive I-10 EB through truck nut country every day. There are only ever two options.
First option, drive in the left lane going 60 mph with the grandparents, 1985 Corrola driving on a donut, dump trucks (how the frick am I supposed to “not follow” you on the interstate!?!), and those fricking 18 wheelers with the 50 ft long concrete beams. Side note, where the frick are all these concrete beams going every day for 2 years??
Second option, drive faster than 60 mph but deal with assholes like OP who think it’s their constitutional right to drive their F-250 at 95 mph with 25 milliseconds following distance.
Serious question.. am *I* the a-hole for driving 77-78 in the left lane when the right lane is going 60, or is the guy in the F-250 an a-hole for trying to drive 95 from bumper to bumper of the cars in front of him during rush hour?
The OT thinks that there’s some magic number for how many mph faster you should be driving to pass another vehicle. OK, what’s the rule? 5 mph? 10 mph? Is the cop going to choose not to give me a ticket because I was passing someone and Bubba behind me needed to get to Marathon?
If a driver thinks that I’m the a-hole for choosing to stay in the 60 mph lane but also not choosing to drive 90 mph then frick him, because the consequences of Bubba’s temper tantrum are less than the consequences of me getting a 10 mph+ speeding ticket.

(I realize that the quoted post doesn’t really apply to everything I’ve said but I’m really getting sick of this shite on I-10...)

Dude I was driving 65 (in a 60) for one when the driver entered the passing lane in front of me "maybe" doing 60. My only course of action would have been to slow to a lower speed of 55-60 to create distance therefore slowing traffic on my rear. Sorry of any of you guys were offended by my post I was just asking a question. I drive an expedition by the way. Thanks guys.

Yeah. That is exactly what you should have done. This is why the cop gave you a Driving Like an a-hole participation certificate when he noticed that you had not done that. I wish he'd have been able to give the other driver a Driving Like an a-hole participation certificate for impeding traffic in the left lane, too. He could only get one of you, though, and you were the greater danger to the people around you and the bigger a-hole.

Youre a pos. You think you have to endanger other drivers because you feel like you gotta be somewhere in a hurry? Next time i hope you get tazed instead of ticketed. Maybe that other individual was going the right speed

I’m posting this again since it got buried on the last page
Pulling into a lane in front of cars where traffic is flowing 10 mph faster than you are is more dangerous than moving over to let cars merge. The merging cars can slow down or speed up much easier than a car driving 75 in the passing lane.

Yeah not sure why these people can't seem to understand this. Agree to disagree with the rest of you keyboard badasses.

So if there's someone in the left lane going 70 in a 60 with someone on their arse, should a cop ticket them for speeding or going too slow in the left lane?

Aren't they supposed to yield?
So, they are accelerating to a comparable speed to those on the interstate and are supposed to come to a complete stop because there is no room? People stopped while trying to merge is probably the most dangerous thing on the road!
Just keep being dicks to those trying to merge and all will work out just fine.
they aren't necessarily accelerating to a comparable speed, and even if they are, the merging vehicle does not have the right of way, meaning they are the ones who should slow down and merge, or yield ... most people don't like to "yield" since they feel it is indicative of their accomplishments in life/economic situation/etc, so they expect the car on the freeway to yield ... that said, for an leo to stop and cite a person for tailgating means that person was exceptionally close to the car he/she was following, affirming the earlier opinions that the OP is, in this situation, the dick ...

That's nice, dear.
Enjoy your ticket and increased insurance rates for that moving violation.

If a passing move is not being made then the driver is impeeding the flow of traffic. Drivers shouldn't camp out in the passing lane.

riding her bicycle down a 6 lane road with no shoulder during rush hour with one of those baby trailers in tow
Sunday was waiting to cross the road LEGALLY when the crossing light turns white to walk across. Oncoming traffic had the green arrow. Across the intersection a lady was riding her bike with baby trailer in tow and just kept right on through as the oncoming traffic began to turn. Bronco speeds up while laying on the horn. Lady shakes the bike and starts screaming. Baby trailer flips and she's dragging the baby while the Bronco is coming fast to prove they have the right of way. She gets to us and keeps cursing as she checks the baby.
I didn't know what to say.

If you do not move over to allow cars to merge you are the biggest POS on the interstate
And if you stay in the left lane while traffic piles up behind you, you are also a huge POS.

Clever can't wait to pay it. I'm giving back to my community and helping to grow the economy. Maybe with enough growth you and your limited education can find meaningful work.

I was riding kinda close to a car going 60 in a 60 in the left lane. I had a broken tail light and expired break tag. A cop pulled up next to me, slightly ahead, in the right lane. I slowed down and he got in front of me and pulled over the car in front for I assume driving in the left lane and not passing slower traffic.
I had said just seconds earlier how this a-hole should be pulled over. It was the greatest road experience of my life.

Those on-ramps have yield signs baw.

They don't think it's safe to tailgate. They don't think at all. Some want to pressure you to speed up or get out of their way. Slowing down with flashers is my go to move.

I agree, but if there is a long line of cars trying to merge on the interstate the left lane driver should be aware of this and perhaps let cars over.
If there is one or two cars trying to merge, they can work that out over on the right side. No need to involve the left lane vehicles too.

If they enforced the "left lane is for passing only law", people tailing wouldn't be an issue.
If you are in the left lane and someone is behind you, get the frick out of the way

I agree 100%
It pisses me off when I’m cruising/passing cars in the left lane and a slower car decides to pull over in the left lane and cause me to either swerve or hit my breaks just so the slow car in the right lane is either letting someone merge or pulling in front of me, going 75 because there’s a car stopped on the side of the road.
Now I understand it’s the law and considerate to move over for cars that are parked on the shoulder but it’s more dangerous to switch lanes in front of a car going 75.
Just slow down and let the fasters cars go by before you switch lanes. It’s not that hard.
